When Hannah heard Ethan’s voice, it was as if she finally saw a way out. She lifted her tear- stained face, desperate and shaken, trying to explain but only managing, “Ethan! Please, you have to help Isla! She–she-”
She was crying so hard she couldn’t even form a complete sentence.
“Take a breath and tell me exactly what happened,” Ethan said, forcing himself to stay calm.
The sharpness in his voice jolted Hannah back to the moment. Stammering through her tears, she finally managed, “Isla was terrified in here, she kept crying and calling for you. She said she wanted to get out, and I didn’t stop her. She climbed up on the window ledge to look for you, but she slipped and fell…”
She stared down at Isla, wracked with guilt. “It’s my fault. I should’ve kept a closer eye on her.”
Ethan glanced at the window, still partly open. It wasn’t high off the ground, but for a child, a fall from there–especially headfirst–could be devastating.
He felt suspicion flicker in his mind, but with Isla bleeding in Hannah’s arms and panic written all over her face, he pushed every question aside.
Whatever the circumstances, Isla was hurt. That was the only thing that mattered right now.
Enough. Pull yourself together, Ethan said, stepping forward to take Isla from Hannah’s trembling arms.
He held the unconscious child close and strode out, not even looking back. “Tell the driver to get the car ready. We’re going to the hospital.”
Hannah stumbled after him, barely keeping up.
Out in the cold night air, Ethan carried Isla and felt utterly powerless.
All the determination he’d gathered earlier in the evening vanished as soon as he saw all that blood.
Meanwhile, the drama surrounding the divorce was still making headlines. Amelia decided to put off going back to the office and spent her days staying in at the estate.
Lily, seeing how restless and bored she was, came up with an idea.
“Amelia, why don’t we take a trip together? I still have nearly two weeks of vacation left this year. Let’s use this chance to escape, go somewhere beautiful and quiet, and forget about all the drama for a while.”

The suggestion caught Amelia off guard, but it made her heart skip a beat.
She called Tim to ask if it would be okay to report to work a few days later.
“Don’t worry about it,” Tim reassured her. “Take your time. There have been paparazzi hanging around outside the building anyway, so it’s probably safer to lay low for now.”
Not wanting her to get lost in negative thoughts at home, Tim added, “Actually, we just landed a big new project. It’s a high–end custom collection–the customer demanded modern Cindaran style. The client isn’t in a hurry, but they have high standards and are very detail–oriented. I’ll send you the brief. Take a look whenever you feel inspired, and maybe try sketching out a few concepts if you’re in the mood.”
“Modern Cindaran style?” Amelia’s eyes lit up. “That’s perfect, Mr. Clem. Thank you.”
This opportunity couldn’t have been better.
Modern Cindaran style was precisely her forte.
After she hung up, she texted Lily. “Let’s do it. The trip might even help me find inspiration.”
Lily clapped her hands in excitement. “Great! Let’s pick a place—are you thinking the beach or the mountains?”
Amelia laughed. “Let’s stay in the country. I’d rather find a quiet little town and just relax.”
They started researching destinations, sharing ideas and suggestions.
After a while, Lily grinned and teased her, “Shouldn’t you let Mason know about this trip? It’s kind of a big deal.”
Amelia felt her cheeks warm.
Ever since they kissed, things between her and Mason had been strangely quiet.
He hadn’t made another move, and she hadn’t, either.
They still lived under the same roof, but that night felt like some distant dream.
Amelia knew something was still holding them back.
And truthfully, she wasn’t ready to rush into a new relationship right after such a painful
divorce.
I don’t think it’s necessary… she said quietly. “He’s been busy anyway.”

Still, once the plans were set, she felt she owed it to him to mention it.
That night, she went to Mason’s study and knocked.
“Come in.”
She walked in and found Mason at his desk, glasses perched on his nose, totally focused on his laptop.
As she entered, he looked up, and his expression softened.
“Can’t sleep?”
“No,” Amelia said, coming to stand by his desk. “I just wanted to let you know something.”
“Oh?” Mason looked at her with interest. “Go ahead.”
“I’m planning to get out of town for a bit. I need a change of scenery.”
A playful smile crossed Mason’s face, and he teased her, “So, is this your way of asking me to drop everything and come with you?”
