That cold, distant text from last night blew up in Mason’s head the second he thought of it.
The thought grabbed his heart and wouldn’t let go.
Tim finished talking and looked at Mason with bright eager eyes, clearly waiting for him to say something bold. Something to claim his ground.
But after a brief dark look crossed Mason’s face, he went right back to his calm unreadable self.
He glanced at Tim, slow and cool. His thin lips parted.
“Boring.”
Then he stood up, walked straight out of the office, and left behind nothing but a cold, stiff back.
“Huh? That’s it… he’s gone?”
Tim stood there, stunned, completely lost.
His mind raced.
Did I push it too hard and mess it up?
Did Mason think I was making things up and didn’t bother to care?
Annoyed, Tim scratched his head.
But he didn’t expect that just 30 minutes later, while he was still sighing at his desk, his phone buzzed with a message from Mason.
“The Lingchers project needs a meeting. Get ready now. We’re going on a business trip this afternoon.”
Lingchers?
Tim’s eyes went wide. He stared at the word three times to make sure he wasn’t seeing things.
How could he not get it now? This wasn’t about any project at all. Mason clearly couldn’t sit still anymore. He was heading straight over to prove who he was.
All his gloom vanished at once. Tim cheered and quickly sent back two words, plus a salute emoji.

Good thing Mr. Everett stepped up.
Otherwise, where would Tim ever find such a clean, honest excuse to fly to Lingchers and see Lily?
Far away, thousands of miles from all of this, Amelia had no idea what was going on.
She slept in at the hotel until she woke up on her own. By then, the sunlight outside the window was already a little too bright.
After a quick wash–up, she and Lily took their time eating lunch before finally starting the day’s sightseeing.
At the gate of the old town, they rented a pink scooter. Lily drove while Amelia sat in the back, weaving through ancient streets paved with gray stone.
A soft breeze brushed her face. Sitting behind Lily, Amelia’s long hair lifted in the wind, and her expression held a kind of ease she hadn’t felt in a long time.
All around them were men and women dressed in colorful local outfits. The detailed embroidery, wax–dyed patterns, and unique silver jewelry caught Amelia’s eye again and again.
Every so often, she asked Lily to stop. She pulled out her phone and snapped photo after photo of the designs that made her eyes light up.
Not long ago, between the divorce and everything tangled up with Mason, Amelia’s life had been pure chaos.
It had been ages since she’d picked up a pencil and calmly worked on a proper design sketch.
She took a lot of photos, and several rough ideas were already forming in her mind. She planned to start drawing as soon as she got back to the hotel that night to see if she could finish a few solid first drafts.
The two of them rode around with no real goal, drifting through narrow alleys.
When they reached a quiet corner deep in the old town, they saw a crowd blocking the way. Several people in work uniforms, wearing headsets, were keeping order and stopping tourists from getting closer.
“What’s going on? That’s a lot of people,” Lily said, stretching her neck to look, but there were too many heads in the way to see anything.

“Looks like they’re filming a commercial,” Amelia said. She wasn’t interested in the noise. Tugging on Lily’s sleeve, she added, “Let’s go somewhere else.”
“Okay.”
Just then, a man who looked like an assistant director hurried over, his face full of enthusiasm.
“Excuse me, ladies. Sorry to bother you,” he said with a friendly smile. “We’re shooting a commercial and need two cameos. I think you both have a great look. Would you be interested? There’s pay.”
Lily instinctively looked at Amelia.
Amelia didn’t hesitate. She shook her head politely. “Sorry, we’re not interested.”
Seeing her refuse, Lily smiled at the assistant director as well and turned down the offer.
A flicker of disappointment crossed his face, but he didn’t push it. He turned and walked away.
“You really don’t want it? Being a cameo sounds kind of fun,” Lily said, still a little regretful.
“Too many people. It’s a hassle,” Amelia replied, starting the scooter.
Just as they were about to leave the area, someone suddenly stepped into their path.
This time, it was a mild–looking man wearing black–rimmed glasses.
Tyler Rice stopped in front of them and gave a small nod. “Ladies, please wait a moment. Someone would like to see you.”
Amelia’s guard went up at once.
She parked the scooter and studied the stranger carefully. “Who? We’re just tourists. We shouldn’t know anyone here.”
Tyler seemed to expect her reaction. Instead of answering directly, he lifted his hand and calmly made a gesture, pressing down the brim of an imaginary hat, then smiled.
“Last night. You forgot already?”
Amelia’s pupils tightened slightly. She spoke carefully, testing the waters. “You’re… Henry’s staff, aren’t you?”
