Chapter 337 The Girlfriend Clause
Amelia fell silent. The guilt hit its peak.
What am I suppose to say?
Deny it?

That would be the same as admitting she was the kind of person who drank too much and then pretended nothing had happened.
She could only steel herself and give a tiny nod.
The moment she confirmed it, Mason’s presence changed.
The smile at the corner of his lips deepened as he leaned forward slightly, closing the distance between them.
His clean, fresh scent wrapped around her.
Amelia’s mind went completely blank.
She thought he was about to kiss her.
Almost on instinct, she raised a hand and covered her mouth. Her eyes went wide as she blurted out in panic, “N–no! You can’t! I drank last night. I smell like alcohol. It’s awful!”
Amelia reacted like she was facing a serious threat; Mason didn’t move any closer. He stopped just a few inches away and lifted his hand, resting it gently on her head.
His large palm carried a warm, calming touch as he patted her lightly.
“Go on,” he said with a smile, his voice low and smooth. “My girlfriend.”
Amelia turned into a statue.
She barely remembered how she stood up or how she walked out of the room.
Amelia only knew that she stumbled all the way back to her door.
With shaking fingers, she pulled her room key from the inner pocket of her bag.
Beep. The door opened.
She slipped inside and shut it behind her. In her head, Mason’s words kept echoing over and
over.

“My girlfriend!!”

Amelia never imagined that the awkward question of her relationship with Mason would be resolved in such a ridiculous way.
Embarrassment flooded over her like a wave. Her whole body felt like it was burning.
And yet, beneath that overwhelming shame, a tiny spark of excitement quietly pushed its way
out.
She rushed into the bathroom and turned on the shower.
Only when the steam filled the air did her thoughts slowly settle down.
After she finished showering and changed into clean clothes, she finally felt refreshed.
She suddenly remembered something. Last night, she had promised Henry that they would go out together today.
Her head was still a mess, but basic manners still mattered.
Amelia picked up her phone and found Henry’s number. She called him, planning to apologize first, meet up somewhere, and then decide what to do today.
The phone rang a few times before he answered.
“Hello? What is it?” Henry’s voice sounded lazy and impatient.
Feeling a little awkward, Amelia said, “Hmm, Henry, I’m really sorry. I got drunk last night and forgot to contact you. About today-”
Before she could finish, Henry cut her off coldly.
“Don’t bother,” he said, distant and uninterested. “I suddenly don’t feel like going out. Besides, who wants to wear something that ugly?”
Amelia paused. She instinctively thought he was angry about her standing him up last night, so she hurried to apologize. “I’m sorry, that was my fault, I-”
Just then, a blurry, intimate voice belonging to a woman came through the phone. Clearly, she just woke up from her sleep. “Who is it? It’s so noisy.”
Amelia’s apology stopped mid–sentence.
She understood instantly.

The reason Henry didn’t want to go out had nothing to do with anger at all. It was because he shared his bed with someone else.
Amelia suddenly felt awkward. It turned out she wasn’t the only one; everyone else’s night life seemed just as lively.
She gave a dry laugh and quickly found a way out. “Oh well, if you say so, then I won’t bother you.”
With that, she hung up fast.
Listening to the dusty tone on the phone, Henry ran a hand through his already messy hair. He pushed away the woman clinging to him like an octopus and walked out onto the bedroom balcony.
Amelia was just a woman he’d found briefly interesting.
He was Henry, after all. He had seen every kind of woman there was.
When it came to women who had a partner and were still in love with another man, he had no desire to compete.
That was beneath him.
Amelia sat alone in her room for a long while.
After she finally pulled herself together, the door suddenly unlocked from the outside. Lily walked in, humming a tune that was completely off–key.
“Hey, Amelia, I’m back!”
Amelia looked up without thinking. Her eyes instantly landed on the large, very obvious hicke on Lily’s neck.
The mark stretched down from the open collar of her shirt, making it painfully clear how wild last night had been.
Amelia’s cheeks heated up again. She quickly turned her head away and pretended to look out the window, clearly thinking she should not be seeing this.
Lily didn’t care at all. She walked over and nudged Amelia with her elbow. “Oh please, what are you shy for?” she teased. “With Mr. Everett’s stamina and looks, you’ll probably be getting thos marks on your neck plenty in the future.”
“Cut the crap!” Amelia snapped, embarrassed and annoyed. She shoved Lily lightly. “Hurry an pack up! Do you still want to go out or not?”
