“Of course I do!” Lily said as she dug through her suitcase for clean clothes. She walked toward the bathroom, gossip lighting up her face. “By the way, what are you going to do about Henry?”

Amelia let out a helpless sigh. “I just called him. The noise on his end sounded like he spent last night with another woman. He doesn’t want to go out with us today.”

Lily stopped right before entering the bathroom. Her lovely brows pulled together, and her expression turned complicated.

“I thought he might be different,” she said. “Guess not. Are guys in the entertainment world all like this? Their private lives are so messy. You should stay far away from him. He’s not reliable

at all.”

Amelia couldn’t help but laugh, though it came out helplessly. She sighed again. “I never planned to get close to him. I just can’t remember who kept whispering in my ear, pushing me to give it a try.”

Lily laughed awkwardly. She stuck out her tongue and quickly slipped into the bathroom. “Hey mistakes happen! I’m taking a shower!”

With Henry out of the picture, Tim’s mood actually got better.

He took charge right away and had someone arrange a high–performance SUV. He was ready for a spur–of–the–moment road trip.

At the hotel entrance, everyone gathered, packed, and ready to go.

Tim volunteered to drive first and climbed into the driver’s seat.

Lily did what she always did. She opened the back door, planning to sit with Amelia.

But before she could fully get in, a cool male voice stopped her.

“Sit in the front,” Mason said calmly. He had appeared by the car door without anyone noticing

Lily froze and pointed at the passenger seat. “Huh? But wouldn’t it be nice for you to sit up front and chat with Tim?”

Mason ignored her. Instead, he looked at Amelia, who was already seated inside the car. His tone carried a quiet edge, half warning, half testing. “So,” he said slowly, “are you saying I shouldn’t sit in the back?”

Amelia felt her scalp tingle under his gaze.

She straightened her back at once and answered with strong certainty, “Yes. Absolutely”

After saying that, she worried Lily might not catch on. Amelia reached out and gently pushed Lily toward the front of the car.

Lily was completely confused by the two of them. Full of questions, she sat down in the passenger seat.

It had only been one night. What on earth had happened between those two?

Why did their whole vibe feel different?

The car pulled away smoothly.

Curiosity got the better of Lily. She quietly watched the back seat through the rearview mirror.

In that small reflected space, Mason leaned over first and naturally helped Amelia pull her seat belt across her body. Click. It locked into place.

But his large hand didn’t pull back right away. Instead, it slid down smoothly and caught Amelia’s hand resting on her lap. His fingers slipped between hers, locking tightly.

The movement was effortless and practiced, as if he had done it a thousand times before.

Lily’s eyes flew open. She almost bit her tongue.

Without thinking, she blurted out, “Oh my-!”

Her shout exploded in the quiet car.

Startled, Amelia yanked her hand out of Mason’s warm grip.

Her heart pounded. Her face flushed bright red. She didn’t dare turn around. She stared out th window at the scenery rushing past, pretending she heard nothing and saw nothing.

“What’s wrong?” Tim asked from the driver’s seat, startled. He glanced in the mirror, confused “Why are you yelling? Have you seen a devil?”

“Nothing!” Lily waved her hands quickly and forced a laugh. “Just drive. Focus on the road!”

She didn’t even dare to turn around. Yet, she could clearly feel it, Mason’s gaze behind her, sharp and heavy, almost like a blade pressing into her back.

Lily instantly shut up. She wished she could shrink into herself and disappear.
