“Wow!” She whispered, walking over to the glass wall. She looked at the frozen lake in the distance and the clear blue sky above. “The weather is amazing today. The sky must be so clear tonight. We’ll definitely see a lot of stars.”

Her excitement over the view eased the awkwardness of sharing a room, at least for now.

They ate a late lunch at a lakeside restaurant nearby. The place was lively, packed with tourists.

Looking around, Amelia noticed that many of them were couples, leaning close to each other, lost in their own little worlds.

She even noticed a pair of young women at the next table. One of them was wearing a simple white veil on her head. She was urging her friend to hurry. “Eat faster. When we’re done, we need to go line up over there. I heard it’s super crowded today!”

Curious, Amelia leaned toward Lily and whispered, “Do people really have to line up just to take wedding photos here?”

Before Lily could answer, Tim jumped in with a grin from across the table. “That’s not for wedding photos,” he said cheerfully. “There’s a city hall office hidden inside this scenic area. People call it the most beautiful marriage registry in the country. Lots of couples come here on vacation, get excited in the moment, and just get married on the spot.”

As he spoke, his teasing gaze shifted to Amelia. He raised his brows on purpose. “So what do you think, Ms. Harlow? Feeling tempted? With the timing, the place, and the mood all perfect, do

you want to give it a try too?”

“Hey! Don’t say that!” Amelia waved her hands in panic, shocked by his bold joke. The color drained slightly from her face. “I just got divorced a few days ago.”

She didn’t finish the sentence, but the light in her eyes dimmed for real.

To her now, the word “marriage” felt like a wound that had only just started to heal. There was no sweetness left in it, only caution after being hurt.

Mason picked up a piece of fish with his fork and calmly placed it on her plate.
