Chapter 375 He’s Angry

With that, Nora stood up as well and began pushing Evan’s wheelchair. “Alright, let’s stop being third wheels. Time to head back to our rooms and let them deal with their own mess.
Not long after, the entire estate grew quiet, with only a few insects chirping outside.
Back in her familiar room, Amelia paced restlessly for a while. In the end, she gave in and headed into the bathroom.
She needed to calm herself first before facing that angry man.
After a quick shower, she changed into comfy pajamas and quietly slipped out.
The hallway was empty. It was lit by just a few wall lamps, giving off a soft yellow light.
Like a thief sneaking around, she tiptoed to the door of the study.
She’d rehearsed her lines, planning to explain everything properly and coax him back into a good mood.
But when she gently pushed open the half–closed door and peeked inside, the room was empty.
The desk lamp was still on. Documents lay spread out neatly, and beside them sat a cup of coffee that had long gone cold. But the chair was empty. The man she had been thinking about nonstop wasn’t there at all.
Where did he go?
Amelia guessed he was probably in his bedroom.
So she made her way down the hallway toward the other end, where Mason’s room was.
The closer she got, the faster her heart began to race.
His bedroom door wasn’t fully closed either, almost like it was left that way on purpose.
Her heart stirred. Without hesitating, she slipped inside.
The room was very dim, with only moonlight spilling in through the window and spreading softly across the floor.
She couldn’t see much, only the vague shapes of the bed and wardrobe.
The air was filled with his familiar masculine scent, which eased her nerves just a little.

He had to be here.
She listened closely and could faintly hear the sound of running water coming from the bathroom.
It seemed that he was still showering.
Just as Amelia was about to call his name, a soft click sounded behind her.
The door had closed.
In the next instant, the room plunged into complete darkness.
Her heart dropped, a chill racing up her spine.

Before she could react, a strong hand grabbed her wrist, pulled her back, and pinned her against a cold wall.
A tall, warm body pressed close, full of pressure and control, trapping her firmly between the wall and his chest.
A clean scent mixed with the steam from his shower surrounded her.
“It’s late, and you’re sneaking into my room.”
Mason’s low voice brushed past her ear.
“You just said you don’t have a boyfriend. And now you’re this bold? Walking straight into a man’s room like it’s nothing?”
In the darkness, Amelia couldn’t see his face, but she could feel his steady breathing and the anger rolling off him.
She stopped struggling and stayed still in his arms.
After a moment, she stood on tiptoe, wrapped her arms around his waist, and held on tightly.
She pressed her cheek to his damp chest and breathed him in.
“I’m sorry…” Her voice came out muffled. “I was wrong.”
Mason’s body stiffened noticeably.
He didn’t answer right away, but his arm around her waist tightened instinctively.
Feeling the change, Amelia went on softly, full of apology. “I wasn’t trying to hide it. I was just scared your mom and your brother wouldn’t accept us. I was afraid they’d think … I’m not good

enough.”
The darkness amplified every emotion.
Mason could hear the unease and fear in her words clearly.

The wall he’d built in his heart because of her denial was already starting to crack under her warmth and quiet pleading.
He snorted, though his tone wasn’t as cold anymore.
“Won’t accept us?” he said. “Did they look like they were about to oppose anything? They looked more like they were excited for the gossip.”
Amelia thought about it in his arms.
That actually seemed true.
But she still had another concern.
“But your grandmother…” she murmured. “She really hates us being together.”
His grandmother’s stubborn prejudice was like a wall between them.
At the mention of her. Mason fell silent.
He sighed.
Finally, he gave in. His other arm came around her as well, and his large hand gently stroked her slightly damp hair.
“That’s her opinion,” he said in a deep, serious voice. “She can think whatever she wants, but she doesn’t get to decide my choices–especially how I live my life. And Amelia, remember this. In this family, I make the calls now. Got it?”
