He leisurely threw back the covers and got out of bed. Walking behind her, he looked at her guilty, sneaky expression and felt both annoyed and amused.
He reached out and poked her tense back with a finger, his tone playful. “We didn’t do anything last night. Why are you acting so guilty?”
“That’s not the point!” Amelia lowered her voice and shot him a glare over her shoulder. “What if your mom sees me coming out of your room? What would she think of me?”
“Oh? And what do you think you look like right now?” Mason was in a great mood, entertained by her flustered reaction. He laughed and lifted his phone, switching to the front camera, then held it out in front of her. “Here, take a good look.”
Amelia leaned in suspiciously to peek.
On the phone, her current state was reflected clearly.
Her hair was a total mess, like a bird’s nest. Both cheeks were flushed red from sleep, her eyes slightly puffy, and her lips were faintly swollen from that long kiss last night.
She looked absolutely terrible.
Like someone who had been
handled a little too much.
Amelia’s face flushed all the way down to her neck.
“Mason!” She was embarrassed and furious as she shoved his phone away. “You’re just enjoying this, aren’t you?”
The more she thought about it, the angrier she got. Stubbornly, she declared, “I’m not coming to your room again tonight!”
The sound of a door closing came from outside. Amelia immediately peeked through the crack in the door. Only after confirming that Grace and Hayden had left the house did she finally let out a huge sigh of relief.
She shot a fierce glare at the still–smiling culprit, then flung open the door and hurried back to her room.
Mason lifted an eyebrow as he watched her bolt away in a panic, the smile on his face growing even wider.
Not coming?
That wasn’t up to her.
About ten minutes later, when Amelia was cleaned up and reappeared in the dining room, Evan and Mason were already seated at the table, eating breakfast.
She’d changed into a clean dress and brushed her hair neatly. A little makeup hid the awkward flush on her face as she did her best to look normal.
“Good morning, Evan, Mason,” she said casually as she pulled out a chair and sat down, keeping her head down and avoiding everyone’s eyes.
The atmosphere at the table was quietly awkward.

Amelia had just picked up a slice of toast when she heard Evan’s gentle voice beside her.
“Amelia, did you sleep well last night?”
“Cough-” Amelia almost sprayed the milk she had just swallowed.

“Pretty good,” she replied vaguely, her eyes darting around. She immediately lowered her head and pretended to focus hard on the fried egg on her plate, wishing she could bury her entire face in it.
Seeing how close she was to bursting into flames from embarrassment, Mason found it secretly amusing. At last, his conscience stirred, and he took the initiative to help her out.
He finished the last sip of his coffee, set the cup down, and smoothly changed the subject. Turning to Amelia, he said, “Today I’m taking Evan to see Zach about his legs. Do you want to come along?”
At the mention of Zach, Amelia’s tense nerves finally relaxed a little.
She remembered then that Zach had been invited specifically to treat Evan’s legs.
“Sure,” she nodded. “I brought some souvenirs back for Kaia during the trip. I can give them to her while we’re there.”
“Yeah,” Mason responded.
After breakfast, they got ready to head out.
Amelia naturally took the front passenger seat.
On the road, she dug a bag of gummies out of her purse and started snacking.
Soft, relaxing music played in the car, and the mood was just right.
After driving for a while, Mason suddenly spoke.
“Give me one.”
Amelia was enjoying herself. Hearing him, she instinctively pinched one piece from the bag and held it up to his mouth.
Mason didn’t turn his head. His eyes stayed fixed on the road ahead.
His thin lips parted slightly, and he took the gummy straight from her hand.
His warm, soft lips brushed against her palm.
The touch was light, but it still made her jolt.
Amelia felt a tingly itch spread across her palm, and even her fingertips trembled.
He was definitely doing it on purpose.
This man always had a way of making her uneasy with the slightest gesture, at the most unexpected
moments.
She instinctively tried to pull her hand back, but his lips lingered for a brief second longer, making her entire arm go limp.

Her cheeks flared hot at once. She lifted her eyes and shot an annoyed glare at the man beside her.
He was already sitting upright, his profile sharp and flawless as ever, as if the person who had just made such a suggestive move hadn’t been him at all.
Still, the faint upward curl of his lips gave him away completely.
“You…” Amelia was just about to say, Did you do that on purpose? But the words froze in her throat as if she had been paused.
