Chapter 395 No Way Back
“If we weren’t living here, under your protection, my daughter and I could be torn apart by them at any time. Now you’re forcing us out. Isn’t that the same as killing me? Ethan, you can’t be this heartless.”
Ethan clearly saw that when Hannah mentioned the Boyds and being taken away, Isla’s small body shrank in on itself. She lowered her head in fear, not even daring to look at Hannah beside her.
It was a fear rooted deep inside her.
Something pricked lightly at Ethan’s heart.
He sighed inwardly.
He could be ruthless to Hannah, but when it came to the child, he ultimately couldn’t be indifferent.
“Since you’re so worried about Isla,” he said slowly, “then I’ll arrange a completely secure place for her.
“I’ll enroll her in a top–tier fully managed boarding school and send her abroad to receive the best education. The security there is airtight. No matter how far the Boyds‘ reach extends, they won’t be able to touch her. That way, Isla’s safety and future are both guaranteed. And you can visit her whenever you have time. Wouldn’t that be the best solution for everyone?”
Ethan’s words instantly sealed off every retreat Hannah had left.
She froze.
Send Isla abroad?
Without Isla by her side, she would lose the one trump card she had to soften Ethan’s heart.
Ethan observed every flicker of her reaction, the corner of his mouth curled into a knowing smile.
“What is it?” he asked unhurriedly. “This is an incredible opportunity for Isla. Why do you suddenly seem unwilling?
“Or do you think that as long as Isla stays with you, you can use her as a shield? That no matter how far you cross the line, I won’t blame you and will tolerate everything?
“But have you forgotten something, Hannah? Her last name is Boyd, not Rowe. She isn’t my child.
“The reason I’ve taken care of you and your daughter is because of Jack’s final request, because he was once my friend. That’s my responsibility to him. It has nothing to do with any special feelings for you.”
Hannah had always believed that Ethan did have special feelings for her.
That youthful affection. That tenderness after their reunion.
She had treated all of it as her leverage, convinced she was different from everyone else.
Now, he shattered all of it with his own words.

Saying that everything he had done was nothing more than a duty owed to a dead man.
Hannah knew then that staying any longer would only deepen his disgust for her..
She had to retreat first and find another way.

Slowly, she released her grip on Isla’s hand. Her expression shifted into a sorrowful, lifeless despair.
She wiped away tear tracks that had already dried, took hold of the still–trembling Isla, and cast Ethan one last resentful glance.
“Fine,” she said quietly. “If, in your eyes, I’ve always been a scheming, malicious woman, then I’ll leave.”
When Hannah finally stopped her futile struggle, the tension in Ethan’s body eased slightly.
The lingering effects of the drug and the violent emotional swings had pushed him to the edge of exhaustion.
Yet just as Hannah took Isla’s hand and prepared to leave this place of conflict, Ethan’s cold voice sounded again.
“Hannah.
“When you take Isla away later, she isn’t going to suddenly fall ill, or have some kind of accident, is she?”
He spoke slowly, every word carrying a heavy warning
His dark eyes locked onto Hannah, missing none of the subtle changes in her expression.
Hannah’s face went pale again.
“Of course not,” she snapped back, stiffening her neck. “How could I ever hurt my own child?”
“Is that so? Good.” Ethan replied flatly. His tone held no emotion, yet it sent a chill through her.
He said nothing more, merely signaling toward the door with his eyes.
Hannah bit her lip, shooting Ethan an unwilling glare.
Then she didn’t linger another second. She all but dragged the softly sobbing Isla toward the guest room.
She packed quickly.
In less than ten minutes, she came back out pulling a suitcase, her face restored to that pitiful, aggrieved expression.
Two bodyguards stepped forward without expression. One took the suitcase from her hand, the other made a silent gesture inviting her to leave. Not a single word was exchanged.
Holding Isla’s hand, Hannah walked step by step down the stairs, through the lavish villa she had schemed so hard to enter. When the heavy, carved doors closed slowly behind them, Ethan sank back onto the couch in exhaustion.

With the source of noise removed, the villa felt unnaturally quiet and empty.
He lifted his head and looked around.

Only then did Ethan realize that every trace of Amelia’s presence in this house seemed to have been completely erased by Hannah.
