Chapter 397 An Unexpected Arrival
“You’re finally here. I’ve been waiting for ages.”
Lily peered curiously past her, blinking as she teased, “Huh? Amelia, why did you come alone? He didn’t come with you?”
Who that “he” referred to was perfectly clear to all three of them.
The smile on Amelia’s face froze.
“He… has an important meeting at the company, so… I didn’t mention it to him,” she said.
It was a lie, her voice so soft it nearly scattered in the evening air.
Tim, who had just parked and walked over, smoothly slipped an arm around Lily’s shoulders and pulled her close, laughing as he defused the moment. “Isn’t that just how it is? That guy’s swamped, busy from dawn to dusk. Nothing like me, with all this free time to take my girlfriend out for dinner.”
Lily laughed and gave him a light punch, chiding, “You talk too much.”
Chatting and joking, they walked together into the small banquet hall they had reserved.
The hall was already lively.
Colleagues clustered in small groups, talking animatedly.
The moment they saw Tim walk in with a stunning woman at his side, the teasing began at once.
“Mr. Clem, who’s this beauty? Aren’t you going to introduce her to us?”
“Exactly. You’ve hidden her way too well. Since when did you get a girlfriend?”
Faced with the crowd’s teasing, Tim showed not the slightest hint of shyness. Instead, he drew Lily a little closer, pride and affection written openly across his face.
He cleared his throat and corrected them with mock seriousness. “Everyone, please be precise with your wording. This lady is not my girlfriend.”
The room fell briefly silent. People exchanged puzzled looks, thinking it was some kind of misunderstanding, and the atmosphere turned subtly awkward.
Then Tim dropped a bombshell. He raised the hand he was holding with Lily’s, showing the matching plain bands on their ring fingers, and announced clearly, “She is now Mrs. Clem, my wife.”
“Wow.”
The entire banquet hall erupted.
“When did this happen, Mr. Clem?”
“My god. That’s not fair. You got married and didn’t tell us?”

Amid the wave of enthusiasm, Tim coughed lightly and smiled as he gestured for calm. “We haven’t finalized plans for the banquet yet, but tonight, everyone cat and drink freely. All expenses will be put on the future wedding tab.
Another cheer swept through the room.
Though Lily was a little shy, her face glowed with open, unguarded happiness as she graciously accepted everyone’s congratulations.
Amelia stood at the edge of the crowd, her emotions tangled.
She watched Tim introduce his partner openly and confidently to everyone.
Then she thought of herself.
Once again, Amelia felt a deep surge of self–disgust.
What was she being so hesitant about?
Mason–someone who always stood in the spotlight—had given her nothing but care and devotion. He was even willing to stay in the background for her.
And yet she, because of vague and unfounded worries, didn’t even have the courage to introduce him to her colleagues as her boyfriend.
Amelia quietly retreated into a corner, picked up a glass of juice, and tried to hide herself in the shadows.
Just then, the heavy carved wooden doors of the banquet hall were pushed open once more from the outside.
Light spilled in from the doorway, outlining a tall, upright figure.
Almost instinctively, Amelia followed everyone else’s gaze. The glass in her hand nearly slipped from her fingers.
It was Mason.
He was dressed in a perfectly tailored suit, as though he had just stepped away from a meeting.
The moment he appeared, the once noisy banquet hall seemed to have been frozen by an unseen hand.
Every eye was drawn to him.
Tim was the first to react. His eyes flicked as he immediately stepped forward, wearing an expression of perfectly timed surprise. “Mr. Everett, what brings you here? I heard from your assistant this afternoon that you had a cross–border meeting tonight.”
Mason’s gaze swept calmly through the bustling crowd and finally settled, briefly, on Amelia in the corner.
Just a single glance, then it withdrew.
