Chapter 405 Be Good at Home
When she said the word “boyfriend,” her voice dropped without her meaning to, a trace of unease slipping through.
“If I suddenly start showing up in this… flashy car, anyone who doesn’t know the situation might think I latched onto some rich guy after just two days apart. Offices thrive on gossip. I don’t want that kind of trouble.”
Mason listened in silence, his expression unreadable.
After a few seconds, he did exactly as she asked, casing the car toward the curb and stopping in a quieter spot.
Amelia assumed she had upset him. Her nerves tightened, and she was just about to say something to smooth things over when he spoke.
“I get where you’re coming from.
“But, Amelia,” he said her name, his eyes fixed on her with unmistakable intensity, “don’t you think that after keeping me in the shadows for this many days, you owe me something in return?”
The car already felt cramped. As he leaned closer, the air inside grew heavier, charged with a quiet, pressing intimacy.
What he was asking for was written all over his face, completely undisguised.
Amelia’s guilt hit its peak.
She clutched the edge of her clothes, instinctively glancing out the window to make sure no one was paying attention, before turning back and complaining weakly, “What are you, a 12–year–old? Since when do you negotiate like this?”
She said it lightly, but when she caught the faint hint of grievance in his eyes, her resolve crumbled.
After all, someone like him–someone who seemed destined to stand above everyone else–was now accommodating her, bound to a relationship that could never be made public. He drove her to and from work every day. To avoid raising suspicion, he even parked far away ahead of time.
Amelia let out a quiet sigh. As if bracing herself, she leaned forward, awkwardly placing her hands on Mason’s shoulders to steady herself, then quickly pressed a light kiss to the corner of his mouth.
“Is that enough?” she asked softly, her face burning.
For Mason, it was nowhere near enough.
He raised an eyebrow, a dangerous spark flashing in his eyes as he countered, “What do you think?”
Amelia barely had time to process his meaning before she felt his hand tighten at the back of her head.
Mason pulled her forward without giving her any chance to retreat.

The next instant, his lips claimed hers.
This time, it was not tentative.
It was decisive and intense.

Amelia instinctively braced her hands against his chest, but the heat radiating from him made her fingers
curl.
Whatever resistance she had dissolved into that deep, consuming kiss, melting away entirely.
Outside the car, the city moved through its busy morning rhythm.
Inside, there was only the two of them.
In the cramped space, the air felt sucked dry.
Amelia felt herself go weak, as if she were melting under him, every ounce of strength draining away.
Time stretched endlessly within that kiss.
Only when her lungs burned did she snap back to reality.
She still had work to get to. Stardale Tower was just ahead. A colleague could walk by and saw them at any
moment.
“Mmh… enough.”
She finally found the strength to push against his solid chest, her protest coming out muffled.
Her voice was soft, breathless, carrying no real force at all. It sounded more like a plea than a complaint.
“If you don’t stop … how am I supposed to go to work…” Her face was blazing hot, the flush spreading to her neck and ears.
Mason finally seemed to pull himself back, realizing he had gone too far.
He eased away slightly, breathing unevenly, though his hand still rested at the back of her head. His thumb brushed lightly against her skin, lingering.
He looked at her, his dark eyes still heavy with desire, as if he might pull her back in at any moment.
Amelia’s eyes were glassy. Her lips, reddened and slightly swollen, looked dangerously inviting.
Mason swallowed, his gaze darkening further.
He took a controlled breath and forced himself to look away. “Alright. I’ll stop.”
