Tim raised his hand to signal for everyone to quiet down and continued, “To support the launch of our brand, the company will gradually scale back external design projects and focus all core resources and energy on building our own label. Time is tight, and the workload is heavy.”

His gaze swept across the room. “I need every department to submit a preliminary plan centered on the brand’s first public debut within two weeks. Remember, I want something detailed and workable.”

Low, restrained discussion immediately filled the conference room.

Everyone was rapidly processing the announcement while thinking through the responsibilities and challenges their departments would soon face.

Amelia lowered her eyes, her fingertips unconsciously brushing across the smooth cover of her folder.

The discussion began to die down. Just as Tim was about to speak again, an unwelcome voice cut in.

“Mr. Clem,” Vince said, clearing his throat with an earnest expression. “I have a small suggestion regarding the preliminary plan.”

Tim looked at him. “Go ahead.”

Vince’s gaze flicked, seemingly casually, toward Amelia.

“Since we’re launching our own line of clothing, the core of the core is obviously design. I think plans like this should be led by the Design Department. They should first come up with a few standout designs that represent the brand’s style. That way, Marketing and Sales can build their strategies around something concrete. Without actual designs, everything else is just talk. It’s too easy for plans to stay theoretical,” he said.

He sounded perfectly reasonable, as if he were thinking purely in terms of work.

But beneath the surface, he had pushed an enormous burden and pressure straight onto Amelia and the Design Department.

In just two weeks, they would have to define the brand’s style and deliver concrete designs convincing enough for every department. It was almost an impossible task.

Even worse, he had placed the Design Department at the very top of the workflow. If anything went wrong with the designs, every department downstream would be stalled, and the blame would naturally fall on Design.

Amelia had not expected Vince to be this petty and unprofessional.

A few sharp words exchanged in an elevator, and he was already setting a trap for her in the most important meeting.

The eyes of everyone in the room turned toward Amelia at once.

She met their gazes calmly, her back straight, without a hint of panic.

“Asking the Design Department to create concepts in a vacuum is irresponsible. I can’t just invent designs out of thin air and assume customers will automatically buy them. A successful brand launch depends on close collaboration between departments, not on one department charging ahead alone.”

She looked around the room as she spoke. “The Design Department needs accurate customer profiles and market trend analysis from Marketing. We need frontline consumer feedback and pricing insights from Sales. We even need Production to evaluate manufacturing feasibility and cost control. We’re a single system. Missing any part of it, the final product will be nothing more than a house built in the air. So when I hear ‘preliminary plan,‘ I understand it as a joint effort, with each department contributing from its area of expertise to produce a comprehensive report covering market, design, production, and promotion. That’s the solid foundation we need for the next step.”

Her words landed with weight. She had not only dismantled Vince’s seemingly logical proposal, but also elevated the issue to the level of company–wide collaboration.

Several department heads nodded quietly, clearly siding with Amelia’s perspective.

Vince’s idea looked efficient on the surface, but in reality it was driven by narrow, self–centered thinking.

Amelia’s approach reflected the vision and composure of a seasoned professional.

Vince’s expression darkened.

He had intended to embarrass Amelia in front of everyone, only to be outmaneuvered by her calm, measured response. Instead, he came across as short–sighted and small–minded.

From the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of Tim’s thoughtful expression, and his heart sank.

Knowing that Tim and Amelia were on good terms, Vince worried that his intentions had been exposed. He quickly laughed it off and changed his tone.

“Ah, Director Harlow is absolutely right. I didn’t think it through,” he said, raising his hands and clapping twice in what looked like praise.

The sudden 180 turn came out of nowhere and reeked of insincerity.

A trace of understanding flashed through Tim’s deep–set eyes, but he didn’t call it out. He tapped the table lightly and concluded, “We’ll proceed as Director Harlow suggested. In two weeks, I expect to see a plan that reflects Stardale’s ability to work as a team. Meeting adjourned.”
