People began to stand and leave one by one. Amelia closed her folder as well and prepared to return to her
office.
“Amelia, wait a moment.” Tim’s voice came from behind her.
She stopped and turned around to look at him.
Only after the conference room was empty did Tim step down from the head‘ seat.
“What was going on between you and Vince today? The way he talked was sharp and loaded, and he kept aiming everything at you. Did something happen between you two?” he asked.
Amelia did not want to bring up the minor incident in the elevator. It would make her seem petty. She shook her head and replied calmly, “No. Maybe that’s just how Mr. Radcliffe works. We’re not close.”
Tim let out a quiet laugh.
“Alright. If you don’t want to say it, I won’t push.” His expression grew more serious. “But if there’s a next time, don’t hold back. To be blunt, this company could lose anyone, but it can’t lose you. Do you understand?”
Amelia’s heart jolted. She looked at him in surprise.
The weight of those words was heavy, so heavy that she did not know how to respond right away.
Tim turned fully toward her, meeting her stunned gaze, and added, “That was Mason’s original reason for investing in this company.”
A trace of awkwardness flickered across Amelia’s face. She tugged at the corner of her mouth and said half- jokingly, “That makes it sound like the company is doomed without me. But don’t worry.”
She straightened and continued more seriously, “When it comes to work, I know how to separate things. I won’t let personal matters hold the company back.”
Tim watched her put on a relaxed front and nodded, saying nothing more.
The conversation seemed to end there. As Amelia gathered her things and turned to leave, Tim suddenly spoke again, “Oh, right. Do you want to come over for dinner tonight? Lily bought groceries and plans to cook herself. Mason specifically told me before he left that while he’s gone, Lily and I need to keep an eye on you and make sure you eat properly instead of forgetting once you get busy.”
Amelia paused mid–movement, warmth spreading through her chest.
“It’s not that serious, I’m not a kid who can’t take care of herself,” she said with an embarrassed smile.
Being worried over like that by Mason felt strange.
There was sweetness in it, along with a faint, stubborn urge to prove she was capable on her own.
In the end, she gently declined Tim’s invitation. “I won’t disturb you tonight. I need to sort through

That evening, Amelia returned to the estate.
The rest of the Everetts had gone with Evan to a rehabilitation center in the outskirts of Eldoria.
The large estate felt especially quiet.

“Welcome back, Ms. Harlow,” Miles said respectfully as he stepped forward to take her coat. ‘Dinner is ready.”
Amelia nodded and took the main seat at the long dining table.
The kitchen soon brought out an elegant spread, all dishes she liked.
Yet sitting alone in front of such a lavish meal, she had little appetite. She ate slowly, her thoughts still circling around the brand proposal.
After dinner, she curled up in her bedroom. After hesitating for a moment, she sent Mason a message.
“How are things on your end? Is Evan doing okay?”
Once the message was sent, there was no reply.
Amelia knew he must be busy, so she set her phone aside and went to take a shower.
When she came out, drying her hair, the phone was still lying quietly on the nightstand.
She picked it up and checked the time. More than ten minutes had passed since she sent the message.
He probably had not seen it yet.
She was just about to put the phone down when the screen suddenly lit up. A video call request appeared. The caller was Mason.
Amelia’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly accepted the call.
At first, the screen was completely dark. Then Mason’s low voice came through.
“Amelia.”
“Yeah, it’s me,” she replied. The image was still shaky and dim.
“Wait a second.”
The screen filled with blurred, drifting white lights.
“Look. It’s snowing,” Mason said.
Amelia froze.
She leaned closer to the screen, focusing on the white specks.

As the camera steadied, she could see clearly. They were tiny snowflakes, floating softly down through the night.
It was different from the heavy snowfall they had seen during past trips.
This seemed to be Eldoria’s last snow of the year. It had not yet reached the city, instead gently settling over the quiet countryside first.
The unexpected sight washed away all the frustration and exhaustion she had carried through the day.
She thought about how little he had contacted her earlier. He must have been focused entirely on Evan.
