Chapter 420 A Day Off
Amelia almost passed out and fell back into the soft mattress.
Right then, the bedroom door opened quietly.
Amelia grabbed the blanket by instinct and looked over, alert. She met a pair of smiling eyes.
Mason was fully dressed.
He walked in, his gaze naturally settling on her.
The blanket slipped as she sat up, revealing her bare shoulder dotted with faint red marks. Mason’s eyes locked on her for a while.
Then he sat on the edge of the bed and gently touched the most obvious mark on her shoulder.
“Sorry,” he said softly.
“Last night… I shouldn’t have been that rough.”
Amelia didn’t dare look at him at all.
His apology ignited intense memories within her.
Scenes of being completely overwhelmed by him, again and again, flashed through her mind.
Who would have thought? The man with supreme self–control had lost control last night.
And somehow, that version of him still left warmth and lingering pleasure in her body.
Embarrassment flooded her. She yanked the blanket over her head and curled into a ball, trying to build a tiny, safe world inside the covers.
Her hiding like an ostrich made the man let out a low, quiet laugh.
“Alright, stop hiding,” Mason said, his voice full of helpless affection. He patted the small lump under the blanket. “I made some breakfast for you. Get up and eat something, okay?”
Amelia spoke in a muffled voice, slightly slurred from lack of air. “What time is it?”
“Almost noon.”
“What!” A gasp came from beneath the blanket.
Amelia threw the blanket off and revealed her flushed, bright red face. I missed half a day of work: The delay is your fault. Handsome men really ruin lives.”
She accused him angrily, completely forgetting she wasn’t wearing anything. With her spoiled tone, that accusation was anything but convincing.
Mason gently tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear and comforted her.
Chapter 420 A Day Off
Fin
“It’s fine. Don’t worry. I called Tim in the morning and asked for a day off for you.”
Amelia stared at him blankly. “A day off? What’s the reason?”
Mason said in a steady, serious tone, “I told him you were with me visiting Evan last night. We got back pretty late, and you’re not feeling great today, so you’re taking the day off to rest.”
Clearly, at a time like this, Evan was a very useful and believable excuse.
Amelia let out a long breath. “Okay…”
Once her body relaxed, the sticky, uncomfortable feeling became much clearer.
She wrinkled her nose and said softly, “I need to take a shower.”
Mason’s gaze immediately turned suggestive. He slowly looked her up and down.
“So, can you walk on your own?” he asked playfully. “Do you want me to carry you?”
“No way!” Amelia refused right away. To prove it, she forced herself to sit up straight. Another wave of soreness hit, almost making her collapse again.
She steadied herself and said stubbornly, “I can handle it myself. I’m strong.”
Then she suddenly realized how embarrassing this topic was. She quickly pushed against his chest. “Y- you… get out. I–I can’t look at you now.”
Mason lifted an eyebrow and leaned closer.
“Oh? Now you feeling shy?” He gave a low, knowing laugh. “You were clinging to me and wouldn’t let go la night; why weren’t you shy then?”
“You jerk!”
Did I actually say things like that?
Why couldn’t I remember any of it?
“Shut it!” Amelia said, flustered and annoyed. She quickly covered his mouth with her hand to stop him from saying anything more embarrassing.
His lips felt warm and soft under her palm.
Amelia’s heart skipped. She tried to pull her hand back like she’d touched something hot.
