Mason raised an eyebrow. His thin lips parted, ready to warn Vince to stay away from Amelia.
But just then, his phone buzzed. A message from Tim popped up.
“I just saw Amelia come back downstairs. She doesn’t look well.”
That message pulled all of Mason’s attention away.
Vince?
What did Vince say?
None of that mattered anymore. Mason immediately worried that Amelia had been mistreated at the Rowes. He no longer had the patience to waste time talking to someone like Vince.
He looked up and swept Vince with a cold, sharp gaze.
You can go now. We’ll talk another time.”
Vince felt like he had been pardoned. But he misunderstood the situation completely.
Mason frowned tightly, clearly upset. Vince thought his words had worked. He thought he had made this powerful CEO doubt Amelia.
After all, he was a man too. He believed he understood men.
A woman like Amelia–cold, elegant, and a little broken–was dangerously attractive.
But men like Mason, who stood at the top, were usually even stricter about relationships.
Was she, a divorced woman, still connected to her ex? Surely, Mason would mind that.
Vince felt secretly pleased. His risky move seemed to be working.
He bowed respectfully. “Yes, Mr. Everett.” Then he quickly left the office, feeling light and satisfied.
He thought he had cleared away a possible obstacle. What he didn’t know was that Mason had already placed him permanently on his blacklist.
The office door closed softly.
Mason tugged at his tic, annoyed. He picked up the desk phone, planning to ask his secretary to call Amelia upstairs and ask what had happened.
He paused and slowly put the phone down
Knowing her, she would probably have just told him she was fine and brushed it off
He didn’t want her to become gossip material in front of everyone.

Chapter 443 When Strength Starts to Crack
Forget it.
Mason stood up and moved around the large desk. He decided to go check on her for himself.
Inside the design director’s office.
Amelia was still trapped in the messy emotions brought by that letter.
She held her forehead, thinking hard, when someone knocked.
Finished
Amelia thought it was Amanda bringing her afternoon tea or documents. “Come in,” she said tiredly.
Footsteps walked closer and stopped in front of her desk.
Then a tall shadow fell over her. A familiar, clean scent surrounded her, pushing away the heavy feeling in the room.
That scent… not Amanda.
Amelia’s heart moved slightly. She slowly looked up..
When she saw who it was, her eyes filled with shock.
It was Mason.
She finally noticed something else. The usually busy open office outside was now strangely quiet.
No one expected the legendary big boss to suddenly show up at the design department.
Many curious eyes were secretly looking toward her office.
Amelia’s cheeks warmed. Feeling embarrassed to be the center of attention, she quickly stood up.
She walked to the door and closed it behind her.
Then she turned back, confused and a little nervous. “Why did you come down yourself?” she asked softly “You could’ve just asked your secretary to call me.”
Her tone sounded formal, like she was reminding the coworkers outside that they were just boss and employee.
But Mason clearly had no interest in playing along.
He slowly walked toward her. The pressure he naturally carried filled the small office as he got closet
Amelia stepped back until her back hit the cold door. She had nowhere else to go
He stopped in front of her. His tall body blocked most of the ceiling light, covering her in his shadow.
“If I didn’t come down,” he said quietly, “were you planning to swallow all your pain and trouble by yourself again?”
