Chapter 449 Loyalties
Ethan’s eyes turned cold in an instant.
His father had been the one who sent Fiona to the hospital. His lover and his illegitimate son couldn’t wait to show up and pretend to be a loving family
“Well done,” Ethan said flatly. “If they come again, throw them out. No need to report to me.”
“Yes, boss,” the bodyguard replied. Then he added, “Also, Ms. Gray came by this afternoon. When she heard you weren’t here, she left without going in.”
“Hannah?” Ethan paused for a second, then kept walking like nothing happened.
He didn’t think much of it. He assumed Hannah had only visited/out of basic courtesy, checking on Fiona.
Soon, Ethan arrived outside Fiona’s hospital room.
Fiona lay on the bed with her eyes closed. An oxygen mask covered her face. Her skin looked paper–thin and bloodless.
Grace sat beside the bed, using a warm towel to wipe Fiona’s hands. When she saw Ethan come in, she quickly put the towel down and stood up.
“Ethan, you’re back,” she said quietly. “Your grandma’s condition is stable for now.”
“What about the will?” Grace pulled him to a corner, away from the bed, and asked anxiously.
“The lawyer already read it,” Ethan said calmly.
He briefly explained the will, especially the parts about dividing the assets.
When he mentioned that Fiona left the estate to Amelia, Grace’s face changed immediately.
“What?!” she shouted, then quickly covered her mouth when she realized they were in a hospital room. But her eyes were full of anger. “Why her? Has Fiona lost her mind? That estate … how could she give it to an outsider?
“Ethan, I’ve been married into the family for over 30 years. I took care of her for such a long time. I stayed with her day and night in the hospital. Why didn’t she show me any appreciation? Why didn’t she leave the estate to me?”
Grace’s complaints buzzed in Ethan’s ears, making his headache worse.
“Enough,” he said, frowning, his voice sharp with impatience. “Is this really the time to argue about this? Isn’t this family already messy enough?”
Scolded by her son, Grace shut up, though she still muttered softly about how unfair it was.
Truthfully, Ethan himself felt uneasy about the estate.
He was afraid Amelia wouldn’t accept it at all.

Finished
He knew her personality better than anyone. She looked soft, but inside she was strong and proud.
When she divorced him, she took nothing. She wanted a clean break. She didn’t want anything tying her to his family.
Now, she had Mason.
With someone like Mason beside her, why would she care about this compensation that came too late?
That estate might not feel like a gift for her, but a new set of chains.
The thought that Amelia might reject it and push his family along with it made Ethan’s heart sink.
“You stay here and keep watch. Call me if anything happens,” he said, not wanting to hear his mother complain anymore. He walked out of the room. “I’m going to deal with Dad.”
Ethan drove back to the family estate.
Following his orders, the bodyguards had locked Derek inside the small bungalow in the backyard. They cut off all his contact with the outside world.
{
Before Ethan even reached the living room, he heard furious shouting from the backyard.
“Ethan! You ungrateful son! How dare you lock up your own father? Aren’t you afraid of punishment from the divine?!
“Let me out! Did you hear me?! When I get out, I’ll break your legs! You heartless bastard, turning against your own family just for money!”
Ethan’s expression remained cold.
He walked straight to the couch and sat down, completely ignoring his father’s screaming.
Ethan took out his phone and called his assistant.
“Come to the estate now.”
But before the assistant arrived, the bungalow’s doorbell rang.
Ethan felt a little surprised.
He checked the video doorbell. On the screen was Hannah, wearing her usual gentle smile.
