Chapter 448 Pride Spoke Louder Than Fear

Mason didn’t bother hiding his possessiveness anymore.

The wide couch was so soft it almost felt like it could swallow a person whole.

Amelia lay beneath him. Her hands pressed weakly against his chest. She tried to push him away, but there was no strength in her arms. The movement only made it seem like she was inviting him closer.

The kiss left her breathless. Her mind went blank from the lack of air. All she could do was accept this overwhelming, dizzying punishment that somehow still felt sweet.

Time blurred. Mason’s hands slowly moved, no longer satisfied with touching her through layers of fabric. The air in the office felt hotter and heavier by the second.

Just when things were about to go too far, his burning lips finally left her already swollen mouth.

He buried his face against her neck, breathing hard.

After another moment, he pushed himself up and finally let her go.

Amelia gasped, pulling in deep breaths of fresh air. Her watery eyes held a dazed, accusing look.

Mason leaned back against the couch, breathing heavily. He straightened his crooked shirt, which she had pulled out of place earlier.

Seeing how miserable she looked made him feel inexplicably satisfied.

Go on,he said, raising an eyebrow. What was that about?

Downstairs just now, you were all business. You were in such a hurry to send me away. So why are you suddenly coming at me like that now, hmm?

His words made her lose the courage she had shown earlier. The embarrassment hit her all at once.

Amelia grabbed a throw pillow and held it in front of herself. Her eyes shifted away, but her mouth refused to admit defeat.

It’s your fault,she muttered.

My fault?Mason looked amused.

II was going to the top floor to give Tim some documents. But then I ran into Vince in the elevator!

She told him everything that had happened.

He made sarcastic comments. Asked if I was coming to see you. I told him I was going to see Mr. Clem.

Then he said he heard you and Mr. Clem talking about how my news caused problems for the company. He said a divorced woman like me wasn’t good enough for you. He told me to know my place and stop having unrealistic thoughts about you!

He talked about us like that! Of course I got mad! I just wanted him to open his eyes and see what we really are to each other!

Mason laughed softly when he saw her puffedup, angry face.

He never expected this. Normally, when it came to feelings, Amelia was like an ostrich. At the first sign of trouble, she would hide and avoid everything. But when pushed too far, she could be surprisingly fierce.

Vince was stupid in the most useful way.

Mason had tried so hard to get her to take one step forward. Vince managed to do it just by making her mad.

So,Mason said, pinching her puffed cheek. His smile would not fade. You kissed your boss in front of the whole company?

Forcing a kiss?! Please!Amelia slapped his hand away and glared at him. You can’t say that about a couple! And you were even more aggressive than me just now!

By the end, her voice grew softer again. The heat had just faded from her face, but now it came rushing back.

OhMason dragged out the word on purpose, like he had just realized something. Couple, huh! I like that.

But,he added lazily, Vince isn’t the only one who knows. Soon, the whole company will find out.

He thought she would feel embarrassed or regretful.

But after the first wave of blushing and racing heartbeat, Amelia let out a long breath. Her whole body relaxed.

Let them know.

She never expected her relationship with Mason would be made public in such a dramatic way.

But when she looked at the smile in his eyes and the steady peace in her heart, she knew one thing clearly. She didn’t regret it at all.
