Chapter 458 The Trap in the Dark

Even though Mason told her to wait for him, after Amelia finished washing up, she still turned off the bedroom light and quickly slipped under the covers.
She closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep. But her ears stayed alert, carefully listening to every sound outside.
From downstairs came the low voices of men talking. Next, she heard the sound of a wheelchair rolling. Then Nora’s voice… Finally, everything went quiet.
Second by second, time dragged on. Waiting became a sweet kind of torture.
After what felt like forever, she finally heard the wooden stairs creak.
Her heart leapt straight into her throat.
She knew he was back.
Soon, the small noises stopped. Light footsteps came from outside her door and paused there.
Amelia immediately held her breath and curled deeper into the blanket, not daring to move.
The bedroom door opened silently, just a crack. A tall shadow slipped inside, carrying the fresh, clean scent of someone who had just showered.
Mason quietly closed the door behind him.
The door wasn’t locked. But inside, it was completely dark.
He moved carefully toward the bed. In a low voice, he asked, “Amelia? Are you asleep?”
Only silence answered him.
Standing beside the bed, Mason rubbed his hair and let out a quiet chuckle.
He thought maybe he only told her not to lock the door but forgot to tell her to wait for him. So this carefree little thing had just fallen asleep.
Well, after everything she went through today, she was probably exhausted.
Thinking of that, the restless need in his chest faded. It was replaced by a soft, aching tenderness.
Forget it. Let her sleep peacefully tonight.
We’ve got plenty of time ahead of us.
Mason moved quietly, circling to the other side of the bed. He carefully reached for the edge of the blanket, planning to slip under it without waking her.
But the moment his fingers touched the blanket, the woman who was supposed to be fast asleep suddenly flipped over.

The thick, fluffy blanket wrapped around him like a trap!
Mason was caught off guard. The sudden force pulled him forward.
Then a light, soft body moved fast and pressed down on him.
Amelia straddled him. Both hands pinned the blanket around him, trapping him underneath. “I caught a thief!” she announced proudly.
In the darkness, her eyes sparkled brightly.
After the shock, Mason quickly realized he’d been tricked.
Looking at her bright, triumphant face, he only found her even more adorable.
With a small push of his arms, he easily broke free from the blanket. Then he flipped them over in one smooth move.
Now he had her pinned beneath him.
“Oh?” he said, looking down at her.
He lifted a hand. His fingers, rough with faint calluses, brushed teasingly across her soft cheek.
“Miss, I don’t think I’ve even started stealing anything. And you trying to charge me with a crime?”
The heat in his gaze made Amelia’s heart tremble.
But she had already started this. There was no backing down now.
She forced herself to stay calm. She even stuck out her tongue slightly and licked her dry lips in a playful, challenging way, not realizing how dangerous that looked to the man above her.
“Well, can’t help it,” she said, acting innocent and a little spoiled. “The moment you walked into this room, you were already guilty.”
Mason couldn’t help laughing at her bold teasing.
“Is that so?
“Then to make that charge real, tonight would be rough for you.”
Even though his tone sounded like a warning, Amelia didn’t back down. Instead, she shot back with burning eyes, “Then, is it worse than you secretly hiding a sculpture of me?”
Mason froze.
The heat and desire in his eyes instantly turned into pure shock.
Of all moments, he never expected her to bring that up now.”
That sculpture was his secret obsession. His silent longing for years.

How did she know?
In a split second, Mason figured it out.
Besides his mom, who always took other people’s side, no one else could possibly know.
He never expected the secret he had guarded for so many years would be revealed so easily by his mother, like something she was proud to show off.
Looking at the barely hidden triumph in Amelia’s eyes..
This little troublemaker wasn’t questioning him at all. She was clearly enjoying the fact that she now knew his biggest secret and was watching him get embarrassed.
