Chapter 462 Want to Catch Them?

With the sun behind him, Amelia had to tilt her head up, and her gaze slammed straight into his deep. shadowed eyes.
They still seemed to carry traces of last night’s heat and restless intensity.
“Did you eat?” he asked.
Amelia nodded quickly. “Yeah, I did.”
“Mmm,” Mason answered lightly. Just as she expected, he didn’t mention anything about last night.
He knew she got shy easily. Teasing her now would only make things worse.
Just then, Hayden’s bright, excited voice sounded nearby. “Aunt Amelia! Come here!”
Hayden was squatting next to Nora, holding a few flexible grass stems and some freshly picked wildflowers. The second he spotted Amelia, he waved hard. “Grandma is teaching me how to make flower crowns! Come on! I’ll make you the prettiest one!”
That shout felt like a rescue rope.
As she’d just been granted a pardon, Amelia quickly looked at Mason for approval.
Seeing right through her attempt to escape, he gently tapped her shoulder with his warm hand and said indulgently, “Go have fun. I brought you here to relax.”
Amelia instantly felt lighter and ran straight toward Hayden.
“Slow down,” Mason’s low voice called after her.
She paused for a split second, and something warm and sweet spread in her chest.
She squatted down and joined Nora and Hayden.
Sunlight wrapped around them in a soft glow. The smell of grass brushed her face with the breeze. Laughter from grandmother and grandson filled the air, and bright little wildflowers bloomed in front of her.
In that moment, Amelia felt like all the tiredness and pressure she’d been carrying for days just melted away by the brief peace and beauty.
Following Nora’s guidance, she picked the brightest flowers and helped Hayden choose the right grass
stems.
As they played, her eyes drifted toward the river nearby.
The water was clear enough to see the smooth stones at the bottom.
A few palm–sized fish swam lazily through the plants, their silver scales flashing in the sunlight. They looked really plump.

“The environment here is really nice,” Amelia couldn’t help saying.

Kaia, who had been standing quietly behind Evan, walked over and followed her gaze. Smiling, she said, “Yeah. Those are wild fish. No muddy taste at all. They’re perfect for fish chowder, especially good for Evan’s health.”
That single sentence sparked a mischievous idea in Amelia’s head.
Fish chowder for Evan?
That sounds perfect.
Her eyes shifted slightly as she waved Hayden over and whispered temptingly, “Hayden, look at those fish. Don’t you want to catch them?”
Hayden followed her finger, and his eyes lit up right away. “I do!”
“Then how about we borrow a fishing net, catch some, and make fish chowder for your dad tonight?”
…
Kids couldn’t resist something like that, especially if it was for their father.
Hayden had already been itching to run around. Hearing that, he dropped the half–made flower crown and clapped excitedly. “Okay! Let’s go catch fish!”
Success!
Amelia silently cheered in her head.
But then another problem popped up.
Where were they supposed to find a fishing net?
Kaia thought for a moment. “Some of the older people in town should have one. I remember Mr. Lambert on the east side likes setting nets in the river.”
Amelia hesitated.
Showing up uninvited to borrow something could get awkward if she got rejected.
After a short inner debate, she turned and looked hopefully at the man leaning against the river railing, clearly enjoying the scene.
She stood up, walked over a few steps, tilted her face up, and said softly, “Mason…”
That single word sounded smooth and gentle, making his eyebrow lift slightly.
