Chapter 468 Don’t Interfere

To help him stand sooner, Kaia put nearly everything she knew into his treatment.
Every night, she stayed alone in her room, practicing techniques for hours.
She didn’t dare ask herself why she was pushing so hard.

She kept reminding herself that he was a patient, and she was a doctor. Healing was simply her duty.
Yet somewhere deep inside, a cold voice kept reminding her of the truth.
Once Evan fully recovered, he would leave.
He would return to his place as the shining star of the business world.
After that, there would be nothing tying them together. They had no reason to cross paths again.
Those thoughts tangled her mind so badly that she lost focus more than once.
Amelia had noticed Kaia acting strangely for a while now.
Following Kaia’s occasional absent gaze, she saw that it always landed on Evan without exception.
Realization flashed in Amelia’s eyes.
After dinner, everyone gathered in the courtyard. Hayden clung to Mason, begging for a story, while Kaia and Amelia stayed nearby to wash the dishes.
As Amelia wiped a plate, she leaned closer and joked lightly, “Kaia, don’t you think Evan is actually kind of good–looking?”
The sudden question startled Kaia so badly that she almost dropped the plate she was holding.
Instinctively, she looked toward Evan. Seeing that he was fully focused on Hayden and hadn’t noticed anything, she finally let out a quiet breath.
She quickly turned away and denied it awkwardly. “Y–you … don’t say things like that! I just…”
She tried to think of an excuse, but nothing came to mind.
In the end, she could only stumble through her words. “Even if he is impressive, you shouldn’t joke like that. What if he misunderstands and thinks I have inappropriate feelings for my patient?”
“Alright, I won’t say anything,” Amelia replied with an amused nod. But inside, she had already decided something.
Once Evan’s legs were fully healed, she would definitely find a way to play matchmaker.
As the night grew deeper, Amelia and the others said their goodbyes and returned to their own courtyard.
With something weighing on her mind, Amelia went straight to Mason’s room as soon as she got back.

“Mason.” She closed the door and leaned in, lowering her voice like she was sharing gossip. “Don’t you think Evan and Kaia would be a great match?”
Mason raised an eyebrow slightly.
He knew Amelia too well. One look at her bright eyes told him she was planning something.
His expression turned serious as he looked at her.
“Amelia, don’t interfere.”
Her smile froze. Confused, she asked, “Why? Don’t you think Kaia is great? She’s kind, capable, and so patient with Hayden. If Evan were with her, he’d definitely be happy.”
“Ms. Preston is great.”
Mason admitted without hesitation. He paused, his voice dropping. “That’s exactly why she shouldn’t be pulled into this.”
Seeing that Amelia still didn’t understand, he spoke more plainly.
“Think about it. If Evan really stands up again, what do you think he’ll do? Stay here peacefully and live a quiet country life?”
Amelia’s breath caught.
“He won’t,” Mason answered for her. “Too many things are waiting for him. The people in the company who started making trouble the moment he fell still need to be dealt with. And the person behind that car accident needs to be exposed.”
Amelia knew it deep down.
That accident had been meant to completely ruin the Everett heir.
Mason had been investigating in silence for years, holding himself back.
Most likely, he was waiting for Evan to stand up on his own, so Evan could personally send the people who pushed him into the abyss straight into hell.
It would be a battle without weapons.
In that kind of chaos, Evan’s situation would be extremely complicated.
And standing in the middle of that storm, he wouldn’t want to involve anyone innocent.
Amelia’s excitement slowly faded away.
She finally understood Mason’s point.
