No Sex for Six Years Because of Her? I'm Done novel Chapter 480

Chapter 480 The Performance

Ethan had been directing people through the various arrangements, but the moment he spotted Amelia coming downstairs, he paused and walked quickly toward her.

You’re up? Go eat something first.” His voice was rough from fatigue.

Amelia shook her head. Let me pay my respects to Fiona first.

Ethan glanced at her but didn’t argue, only saying quietly, Stay close behind me.

He led her to the end of the line of people waiting to view the body.

The line moved slowly, and soon it was their turn.

The casket had a glass viewing panel set into the lid, and Amelia could see Fiona clearly the moment she stepped forward.

Fiona had been made up with light, natural cosmetics and dressed in her favorite outfit. Her expression was peaceful, but that ashen face, utterly devoid of life, made Amelia feel as though an invisible hand had seized her heart and squeezed.

Scenes from her time with Fiona flickered through her mind like a reel of film playing on fastforward.

The tears she’d been holding back finally spilled over, blurring her vision in an instant.

Amelia pressed her hand over her mouth to keep from crying aloud, but her shoulders trembled with the force of her grief.

Ethan reached out and gently steadied her arm, offering her something to lean on.

His eyes were red too, but as the man now holding the Rowes together, he had to keep it together and couldn’t afford to break down in front of everyone.

The two of them circled the casket, then bowed with the others before the memorial, and each placed a white rose at the altar.

Only after the full ceremony was complete and the eulogist delivered his final speech of farewell did everyone start to move.

Ethan pulled a pack of tissues from his pocket and handed them to Amelia, nodding for her to dry her

eyes.

Amelia took them and murmured a soft thank you,her emotions slightly more settled than before, though her eyes were still swollen and red.

As she dabbed at her tears, she glanced around the hall almost without thinking and suddenly realized that aside from Grace, both Vivian and Casswho had been pointing fingers at her just yesterdaywere nowhere to be seen.

Ethan was soon pulled away to handle other matters, and Amelia drifted alone toward the side wing, hoping to grab something to eat.

Florshed

In the dining room, a few distant Rowe relatives and some of the maids were eating, speaking in hushed tones about something.

Amelia had barely sat down when she caught two women at the next table whispering.

Hey, have you seen Vivian or Cass? They were here this morning, and now they’ve just vanished.

Who knows. I heard someone say they rushed out first thing this morning, claiming some kind of family emergency. Didn’t even stay for the funeral. What could possibly be so urgent that they’d just leave like that? So disrespectful.”

Right? Fiona was always so generous to them while she was alive.

Amelia’s hand paused midair, her fork hovering over her plate of pasta, as a flicker of suspicion stirred

inside her.

Vivian and Cass had just gone after her about the estate yesterday, and now they’d slipped away at the crack of dawn without a worddidn’t even bother staying for the funeral?

That was a little too convenient to be a coincidence.

So was this Ethan’s doing?

The thought crossed her mind, and a bitter, selfmocking smile tugged at the corner of Amelia’s lips.

Even if it was, so what?

Protection that came this late was like being handed a glass of ice water in the dead of winterit only sent a chill through your bones.

Besides, it was just as likely that he’d done it simply to make sure Fiona’s funeral went smoothly, nothing more than a practical decision.

She pushed the thoughts aside and forced herself to finish the plate of pasta.

The funeral proceedings were long, elaborate, and solemn, with a steady stream of guests arriving to pay their respects.

Amelia stood in the spot Ethan had designated for her, mechanically bowing in return alongside the others as mourners passed through. The hours slipped by in a blur.

Just before the midday reception was set to begin, a commotion broke out near the entrance of the memorial hall.

Amelia looked toward the sound, and with a single glance, she felt her temples start to throb.

Sure enough, the one she’d been dreading had arrived.

There was her mother, Clara, dressed head to toe in black, her face twisted in an expression of utter devastation, leaning heavily on Beatrice’s arm as she shuffled in one dramatic step at a time.
