Chapter 541 Nightfall at the Bar
Before Tim could figure out what to say, Leigh spoke up beside him with perfect tact.
Finished
Dad, you two go ahead and talk business. I won’t interrupt. I happen to be meeting some friends later, and it’s about time anyway?
She turned to Tim with an easy smile. Take your time. Don’t worry about me:
Tim was seething inside, but there was nothing he could do.
He was not Mason, some pampered heir who could leave clients waiting whenever the mood struck. The weight of the Stardale Group was still on his shoulders. He drew a slow breath, forced down his frustration, and in the end could only give Amelia an apologetic look.
“Then go on ahead,” he said quietly. “She probably hasn’t had dinner yet. When you get to the hotel. remember to order something for her.”
It was the only thing he could do for Lily right now, and even that felt painfully weak.
Amelia nodded and said nothing more. She understood Tim’s position, but understanding was not the same as agreeing with it.
What she felt most was pity for Lily. A woman proud as a queen was now left to lick her wounds alone.
“I’ll head back first,” she said simply, then turned and hurried out of the private room.
Outside, Amelia flagged down a cab and gave the driver the address Lily had sent. The bar was tucked deep inside an alley.
The moment Amelia pushed open the heavy wooden door, a wave of music crashed over her. Frowning she swept her gaze across the bar at once.
She found Lily quickly.
She was sitting alone in the farthest corner of the counter, still wearing her tailored work suit. In a place full of pulsing lights and blurred shadows, she looked out of place, yet her striking face and cool, distant air drew no shortage of attention, open and covert alike.
Several empty glasses were already lined up in front of her.
She was resting her chin in one hand, watching the bartender’s flair tricks with unfocused eyes. A faint smile curved her lips, touched with self–mockery and something broken.
Beside her sat a young man, handsome in a polished, trendy way, no more than his carly 20s. He wore designer streetwear, his hair dyed a fashionable flaxen shade, and there was a bold, reckless edge to him, the kind that came from being too young to know caution
He had clearly been trying to pick Lily up for a while Leaning in closer, he spoke in a teasing tome that
barely hid his nerves.
“Beautiful, drinking alone is kind of a waste, isn’t it? Why don’t we exchange numbers and he friend

don’t look like you’re from around here anyway. If you’re out to have fun, why be so covered!
Lily gave him nothing but a perfunctory hum, with no real intention of responding,
The young man refused to take the hint. “Come on, gorgeon. You’re this pretty, and you’ve got weyte Sitting here alone is a waste. Let me buy you a drink. We can call it an introduction. Who knows, maybe tonight could turn into something romantic
He flashed what he clearly thought was a charming smile and lifted a freshly made coxkuzil toward her
Only then did Lily slowly turn her head and glance at him, her eyes heavy with wearinen.
He had obviously worn down her patience. Her long fingers reached for the handbag beside her, as if the meant to pull out her phone, give him what he wanted, and put an end to the pointless flirting
“Sorry, my friend’s drunk”
Amelia stepped forward at exactly the right moment, moving swiftly between Lily and the young man
Her face was cool, and the look she gave him was sharp with warning
The young man was clearly startled. The ingratiating smile froze on his face. Awkwardly, he pulled back the drink he had offered, a flash of irritation crossing his eyes.
“Amelia…
At the sound of the familiar voice, Lily’s gaze finally came into focus. She swayed, then threw herself into Amelia’s arms and whined in a tearful voice, “Amelia, you finally came…”
The force of it made Amelia stumble, though she managed to steady herself in time.
That you finally came… was Lily saying it to her, or in her drunken haze, was she really waiting for Tim
Amelia gently patted Lily’s back and coaxed her softly. “I’m here. You’re drunk. Let’s go back to the hotel okay?”
But Lily burrowed into her like an angry cat with its fur standing on end, shaking her head hard in protest “No… I’m not going back…. If I go back, I’m staying with you tonight…
Helpless, Amelia could only soothe her first, then call over a staff member and ask them to get a car so she could take Lily back to the hotel.
Supporting Lily, she guided her toward the door one slow step at a time. Lily’s body felt heavy, almost all of her weight slumped against Amelia.
