Chapter 583 Stay With Me

Then he turned to Hayden, who was standing there at a loss. “Hayden, get your great–grandmother another cup of coffee. Make sure it’s warm.”
Just a few words, and Evan had broken up the tension that was about to explode,
Wilda still wanted to speak more. But when she met her grandson’s gentle yet firm gaze, she swallowed her words. She only let out a sharp snort, her face full of displeasure.
Mason looked at Evan for a moment. Then he gave his worried mother a small nod, telling her not to worry.
He took Amelia’s hand. She still looked dazed. He led her out without looking back.
The car drove away smoothly. Outside, the countryside blurred past the window, as if trying to leave that ugly argument far behind.
“Don’t worry,” Mason said in a low, steady voice. “She only pulls that ‘elder‘ act around me.
“I didn’t listen to her when I was a kid. Not before. Not now.”
But the guilt Amelia felt still weighed heavily on her.
She bit her lip hard. After a long pause, she finally said in a quiet voice, “I’m sorry. The holiday isn’t even over, but I caused such a mess in your family.”
Mason frowned slightly.
He clearly didn’t like hearing that.
The car stopped at a red light.
He let go of the steering wheel and reached over. His fingers gently brushed the mark her teeth had left on her lower lip. Then he moved his hand up and softly patted her head.
“What do you mean, my family?” he said. “Isn’t it yours too?”
Amelia froze. She looked up and met his deep, mysterious eyes.
He was right. She had forgotten. Years ago, when she had nothing and no one, this place had already become her home. Her eyes filled with tears. They spilled down her cheeks.
But this time, the tears didn’t come from pain. It was from being moved.
She leaned in and gently rubbed her cheek against his warm palm.
Mason watched her quietly. She looked so fragile and wholly dependent on him; it made his chest tighten.
He said nothing. He simply reached out and gently wiped the tears from her face. Once the light turned green, he started driving again.

Chapter 583 Stay With Me
When they got back to the estate, he parked the car and carried her suitcase inside.
As soon as they stepped in, his phone rang.
Mason glanced at the screen. It was Evan.

He gestured for Amelia to sit on the couch. Then he walked over to the window and answered the call.
“Evan.”
Amelia sat quietly on the soft couch, watching his back.
He stood tall, broad–shouldered, with a narrow waist. Even just his back made her feel safe.
Evan said something on the other end. Mason replied now and then.
“Mm, got it.
“How is she doing?
“I figured. She didn’t come back for no reason.
“Alright. I’ll keep an eye on things at the company. You handle her for now. Thanks, Evan.”
The short call revealed a lot.
Amelia felt her chest tighten. So Wilda’s sudden visit really wasn’t just about checking on her grandson.
After he hung up, Mason didn’t head back like she expected. Instead, he carried her suitcase toward the
stairs.
Amelia couldn’t help asking, “Y–you’re not going back?”
Mason turned and walked over. He sat beside her on the couch.
“She doesn’t like seeing me anyway,” he said casually. “Whether I go back or not, it won’t change anything.
“I’ll stay here with you. Evan can handle her. Don’t worry.”
He paused, his gaze darkening a little, then added, “Besides, Grandma never shows up without a reason. The way she made a scene today… She’s probably trying to send me away. Something might happen at the company. I need to keep an eye on it.”
His reasons made sense. Both work and family were covered. Staying seemed logical.
But Amelia knew the truth. Maybe everything he said was real, but the real reason he stayed was because he would rather not leave her alone to overthink.
Warmth filled her chest again. She hesitated for a moment. Then she finally spoke of the doubt she had been holding inside.
