Chapter 593 A “Peaceful” Dinner
Finished
Wilda paused, lifted her chin, and looked around the house. “So, starting today, I’ll stay here for a few days with Phoebe. You should make good use of this chance.”
The meaning was clear.
She wanted Amelia to lower herself, serve her well, and try her best to win her approval.
“No need.” Mason’s voice cut in, cold and firm.
He looked at his grandmother coldly. “What Amelia and I do is our business. We don’t need anyone’s approval. If you want to stay in Eldoria, I’ll arrange another place for you right away. It will be quieter and more comfortable than here.”
He was clearly asking her to leave. There was no room for discussion.
Wilda’s face darkened. Just as she was about to lose her temper, Amelia stepped out from behind Mason.
She gently tugged his sleeve, telling him to stay calm.
Amelia met Wilda’s sharp gaze. Her expression was steady. Her voice was soft but firm. “If Wilda wants to stay, then please stay. There are plenty of rooms here. You and Ms. Jewell will be more than comfortable.*
Mason frowned and looked at her, clearly not agreeing.
Amelia gave him a quiet, reassuring look.
The truth was, she didn’t want them here.
But Wilda was still Mason’s grandmother. She didn’t want their relationship to grow worse because of her. As for Phoebe… her intentions were obvious to anyone.
Instead of guessing what she was planning, it was better to keep her close.
If someone had bad intentions, they would show it sooner or later.
Since Amelia had spoken, Mason didn’t say more. But there was no warmth on his face.
That night, at dinner, Mason had the staff prepare several light dishes that Wilda liked.
Still, Wilda clearly had no intention of appreciating it.
She picked up her fork slowly but didn’t eat. Her sharp eyes scanned the table. When she didn’t see Amelia, she spoke on purpose, “It’s dinner time, and she’s not here. What kind of manners are those?”
Mason set down his fork. “She’s in the study working on design drafts. She’ll eat later.
“Oh? Design drafts?” Wilda’s lips curled in open disdain. “I heard that she is working as a design director at one of your companies?
“I even had Phoebe look her up online. After all these years, she hasn’t achieved anything impressive. Not a single well–known work. Mason, isn’t this just the same as you setting up a company to support her?”
Phoebe lowered her head at the right moment, looking innocent and humble, as if she were just sharing facts. But the smile at the corner of her lips gave her away.

Mason looked up. His eyes turned icy.
Just one glance made Phoebe freeze. A chill ran through her.

Then he looked away and spoke calmly.
“But last year, Stardale made 300 million dollars in profit.
“Grandma, do you think that money came out of my pocket just to support her?”
Wilda had spent half her life in business. After a brief moment of shock, her sharp mind returned.
She might look down on someone’s background, but she would never ignore real profit.
Still, admitting Amelia’s value meant admitting she was wrong–and that Phoebe was useless.
She would never allow that.

Wilda tapped her fork lightly against her plate and fixed her gaze on Mason again. “Three hundred million is good. But Mason, think carefully. How much of that really has to do with Amelia? Without her, would your company not make money? Don’t give all the credit to one person when it belongs to the platform.”
Her words twisted the truth, trying to downplay Amelia’s ability and credit everything to their family.
“Of course it has to do with her. The company reports are right there. If you’re interested, you can check them anytime.”
He calmly picked up his napkin and wiped his mouth. “Before Amelia officially joined Stardale, the company was still in its early stages. The team wasn’t stable yet. It lost money for six months straight. But after she became design director, she led the team herself and launched two ready–to–wear collections. As soon as those collections hit the market, they took off.”
