Chapter 613 Playing the Good Girl
Wilda only felt that the two Harlow sisters were like an inescapable curse–clingy, relentless, impossible to shake off from the family.
Faced with her questioning, Pedro seemed completely oblivious to the tension in the room. Instead, he wrapped an arm more intimately around Beatrice’s shoulders and introduced her openly, “Grandma, let me formally introduce you. This is my girlfriend, Beatrice. We just started dating not long ago, and since we had the chance today, I thought I’d bring her to meet you.”
Beatrice followed smoothly, offering a gentle, obedient smile. “Hello, Wilda.”
“Hmph.” Wilda let out a cold snort, her sharp gaze sweeping over Beatrice. “You’re not even close to talking about marriage yet, so coming to see me alone would’ve been enough. Was there really a need to make such a show of it?”
The smile on Beatrice’s face stiffened for a split second, but quickly returned to normal.
Pedro acted as if he hadn’t noticed at all. He chuckled, his gaze drifting meaningfully between Mason and Amélia before speaking slowly. “No wonder you reacted like that the moment you saw Beatrice, Grandma. Looks like my taste in girlfriends isn’t that different from my brother’s after all.”
He deliberately lumped Beatrice and Amelia together. He lowered Amelia’s standing while also taking a subtle jab at Mason’s judgment.
Amelia sat upright, and her fingers were tightening slightly around her glass. However, her expression was
still calm.
On the other hand, Mason’s gaze darkened instantly.
He said nothing. Instead, he gently placed his hand over the back of hers, the warmth of his palm silently grounding her.
Beatrice, meanwhile, seemed unaffected by Wilda’s cold attitude. She stepped forward and presented an exquisitely wrapped gift box with both hands, her tone warm and familiar. “It’s been a while, Wilda. I was in Porteria on a business trip recently and specially picked out some health food for you. It’s very good for your health, and I hope you’ll like it.”
Wilda looked at the expensive gift, her expression easing slightly, though she still didn’t reach out to take it. She was clearly hesitating.
Seeing this, Pedro immediately spoke up, almost as if showing off. “Grandma, don’t let the fact that Beatrice shares the same last name as Amelia bias you. She’s not like certain people. She’s been helping out in the family company for a long time now, and she’s very capable.
“Just recently, when she went to Porteria, she single–handedly secured a partnership with Mr. Jewell of the Holden Group. That’s a major deal.”
The Holden Group.
Isn’t that the company run by Phoebe’s uncle, Holden Jewell?

Though the Jewells were no longer at their peak, they were still a well–established name in Porteria.

Being able to connect with them–and successfully close a deal–wasn’t something that could be done with just a pretty face.
In that instant, the way Wilda looked at Beatrice changed.
She subconsciously glanced at Amelia, who sat quietly beside her.
In Wilda’s eyes, designing clothes and drawing sketches were nothing more than trivial hobbies, mere pastimes for a young woman.
But Beatrice? She had brought in real profit for her family’s business.
The difference was obvious.
With that comparison, the small prejudice Wilda had held simply because of Beatrice’s surname quickly faded.
The tension in her face softened. She even reached out, taking the gift box from Beatrice.
“That was thoughtful of you,” she said politely. Though her tone still carried the reserve of an elder, it was far warmer than before. “You’re quite capable at such a young age.”
That approval flashed a hint of triumph in Beatrice’s eyes. But outwardly, she maintained perfect humility.
“Oh, you flatter me, Wilda.” She smiled shyly, lowering her gaze. “It’s only right that I take on some responsibility for my family.”
She smoothly took the seat beside Wilda and even brought up the family’s past troubles, her tone carrying a mix of self–mockery and acceptance. “Wilda, I know that when our company ran into trouble back then,
gave you and your family quite a spectacle. My father mismanaged things and trusted the wrong people, and it nearly destroyed the company.”

She sighed, then shifted her tone, her face lighting up with renewed confidence. “But that’s all in the past now. I’ve taken over management, and the company has fully returned to profitability. It’s growing stronger every day. I believe it won’t be long before we regain our former glory.”
