Chapter 621 The Hidden Current Beneath Calm Waters
The moment he lowered his gaze, a dark flicker flashed in his eyes. Yet, it was too fast for anyone to catch.
Just then, a sharp ringtone broke the fragile atmosphere between them.
Mason took out his phone and glanced at the caller ID, his brows shifting slightly.
“It’s my eldest brother,” he said to Amelia as an explanation.
With that, he turned away, phone in hand, and walked out of the bedroom straight toward the balcony.
The night had deepened. The sliding glass door to the balcony wasn’t fully shut, leaving a narrow gap.
Amelia continued packing, though her focus had clearly drifted.
The evening breeze carried fragments of Mason’s lowered voice back into the room in broken waves. She couldn’t hear everything clearly, but a few scattered words slipped through with unsettling clarity.
“Are you sure you want to do this?
“Yes. The list is already confirmed.
“They are done for.”
Amelia’s hands froze mid–fold. She turned her head instinctively toward the balcony.
Through the glass, she saw his tall silhouette outlined by the night wind. One hand in his pocket, the other holding the phone, his posture calm yet distant–sharp in a way that felt almost untouchable.
It was still the same man she knew. And yet, in this moment, he felt strangely unreadable.
Mason’s call lasted nearly twenty minutes.
Amelia didn’t continue packing. Instead, she sat on the carpet with her knees drawn up, quietly waiting She couldn’t imagine what kind of situation would require him and his brother to speak in such a tone
In her memory, Mason was always controlled and decisive in business. He was never shaken and was always several steps ahead. He didn’t sound like someone who lost control. So what exactly was happening?
Was Wilda and Pedro’s faction pushing him to the edge? Was the situation already serious enough to threaten his position in Everett Group?
Lost in thought, she barely noticed when the balcony door slid open again.
Cold night air followed him back inside.
Mason stepped in and turned around, only to find Amelia staring at him with a rare seriousness. He raised a brow slightly.

He stretched the words a little, deliberately. “Do you mean Pedro and Grandma are teaming up t me out of Everett Group at the shareholders‘ meeting? Or do you mean I’m about to go bankrup up completely broke?”
