Mason paused, then turned his head slightly. His gaze fell on Amelia’s pale, bloodless face behind him, and he added in an unwavering tone, “And I believe Amelia. She would never do anything to hurt Evan.”
Amelia felt a loud buzzing in her head.
Ruth’s appearance had been too perfectly timed, and the accusation had come too smoothly. It was obvious someone had calculated everything, determined to pin the blame for Evan’s injury firmly on her.
She took a deep breath, her fingertips digging hard into her palms as she forced herself to stay calm.
“There… there should be security cameras at home.” Amelia looked up at Mason. “Mason, check the footage.”
But Mason let out a low sigh. His hand tightened slightly on her shoulder, his voice turning cold. “There were. But a while ago, Evan said he stayed in the house all day and felt uncomfortable being watched all the time. He thought it invaded his privacy, so he had them removed just the day before yesterday.”
The last bit of hope shattered completely with those words.
Amelia took a step back in disbelief, her back hitting the cold tiled wall.
How could there be so many coincidences?
It just happened on the very first night after the cameras were removed, and was witnessed by the new caregiver.
“It wasn’t me… I had no reason to hurt Evan. Why would I do something like that?” She bit her lip hard and looked stubbornly at everyone.
“A reason?” Wilda let out a cold snort, her face full of harsh hostility. “Who knows what kind of shady things you’ve been doing behind our backs. Maybe Evan just happened to find out, and that’s why you tried to silence him!”
The baseless accusation felt like a dull, rusted knife dragging back and forth across Amelia’s chest.
Somewhere inside her, a surge of courage rose, and she shot back, “Then tell me, what exactly have I done wrong? What secret do I have that’s worth risking Evan’s life to cover up?”
“You…” Wilda was caught off guard and left speechless by the sudden question.

Chapter 669 I Believe Her

She really couldn’t come up with anything. Amelia had been busy working overseas lately, and had just come back when this happened. There was no logical motive anyone could piece. together.
But Wilda had always been domineering. She immediately doubled down. “Fine! Since you won’t admit it, we’ll let the police investigate! When the results come out, if the evidence proves it was you, let’s see how you’re going to keep protecting her, Mason!”
Just as the tension in the hallway was about to explode, the hospital room door opened slightly, and a nurse hurried out. With a frown, she scolded them in a low voice, “Please keep it down. This is a hospital. Patients need rest. Mrs. Everett who fainted earlier has already woken up. She heard you arguing outside and got so upset she started crying again. She’s very unstable right now. Please go in and check on her.”
