**My Heart Waited Too Long and Choosing Freedom**
**Chapter 82: A Dangerous Confession**
Back in the days when Tim was living abroad, he had carved out a niche for himself by running his own business, navigating the complexities of entrepreneurship with a mix of determination and skill. However, a significant turning point arrived when Mason, with a generous offer, pulled him back to their homeland. Last night had brought a whirlwind of changes as Mason dropped the bombshell that Tim would now take the helm at Stardale, a task that loomed large, especially with the Everett Group still grappling with its own challenges.
Tim was still grappling with the weight of this unexpected responsibility when he noticed Mason’s silence. The air between them felt heavy, and as Mason took a deliberate step closer, the atmosphere shifted. It was as if a storm cloud had rolled in, casting a shadow over Tim’s thoughts and leaving an unsettling chill in its wake.
With a gaze that could freeze fire, Mason locked eyes with Tim, his voice dripping with frost. “Why would you tell her I have someone in my heart?”
Tim blinked in confusion, his mind racing to catch up with the sudden turn of the conversation. “Huh?” His bewilderment was palpable. But within a heartbeat, realization struck him like a bolt of lightning, and his eyes widened in disbelief. “No way. Amelia is a married woman! She’s been tied down for six years! You’re seriously into her?”
Mason’s brows arched defiantly, a mix of pride and indifference etched across his features. “So what?”
Tim felt as if the ground had shifted beneath him. The mere simplicity of Mason’s response shattered the perception he had of his friend. For a moment, words eluded him, and he stood there, grappling with the enormity of what he had just learned.
Finally, he managed to stammer out, “Dude, let me remind you… stealing someone’s wife or stepping into the role of the other man—that’s not just morally questionable; it’s downright demoralizing!”
Silence enveloped the room, thick and suffocating, as tension crackled in the air like static electricity. Tim couldn’t decipher the thoughts swirling behind Mason’s dark, inscrutable eyes, leaving him feeling exposed and vulnerable.
In a bid to steer the conversation away from the uncomfortable topic, Tim reached for a gold-embossed invitation resting on the desk. He waved it in front of Mason, eager to break the heavy mood. “Look at this!” His voice regained its playful edge. “Ever since the news broke that Stardale is linked to the Everett Group, I’ve been drowning in invitations. This one’s for a charity gala—big names from tech and finance will be there. Are you planning to show your face?”
Mason cast a disinterested glance at the ornate card, his expression one of boredom. “Check the final guest list. I’ll decide after that.”
Tim pressed on, trying to infuse enthusiasm into the conversation. “As for the rest, you can go as Stardale’s representative. You’re the general manager; this is your specialty!”
“Got it!” Tim replied quickly, tucking the invitation away with a sense of accomplishment.
He was well aware that Mason had never been fond of social gatherings. The only reason he would consider attending was if someone on that list piqued his interest enough to warrant his time. Yet, today, a nagging feeling tugged at Tim’s gut, suggesting that Mason’s motivations might not be purely professional.
Amelia couldn’t help but laugh at her friend’s exuberance. Amanda’s excitement was infectious, and it filled the room with a bright energy that was hard to resist.
“Alright, alright,” Amelia said, playfully patting her friend’s back. “I’ll give you a few days off. Next Monday, we’ll officially start at Stardale. Now, go home, get ready, and maybe start planning how you want to spend your newfound fortune.”
After sending Amanda off, still buzzing with delight as if she had just struck gold, Amelia turned her attention to sorting through the gowns and fabrics scattered throughout the studio.
Before long, her phone buzzed insistently, breaking her concentration. It was her mother-in-law. A knot tightened in Amelia’s stomach.
She had secretly maneuvered Ethan into signing the divorce papers, and now they were in the waiting period. However, no one in the family, especially the domineering Grace, had any inkling of what was unfolding.
As she answered the call, Grace’s impatient voice pierced through the speaker like a sharp knife. “Amelia! Where on earth have you gone? I’m at the villa now. Are you planning to ignore your family just to cling to that silly job of yours?”
In that moment, Amelia understood that the only family connection they would ever have was the one that would soon label her as Grace’s ex-daughter-in-law.
