**TITLE: My Heart Waited Too Long and Choosing Freedom**
**Chapter 95: He’s Been Waiting**
To her utter astonishment, both Ethan and Grace reacted in unison, their voices cutting through the tension in the air like a knife. “Stop saying nonsense!”
“Hannah, watch your words!”
The sharpness of their tone sent a chill down Hannah’s spine, causing her previously bright smile to freeze in place, as if it had been cast in ice.
She had never envisioned that, even in this fraught moment, the bond between mother and son would manifest in such fierce defense of Amelia.
Frustration simmered in her chest, a fire she dared not stoke further. Instead, she forced herself to pivot the conversation. “Then… Ethan, when do you plan to head to the office? I need to drop Isla off at school, and it would be convenient to go with you.”
Ethan, having spent a sleepless night wrestling with his thoughts, was already on edge. His patience had worn thin, and he flicked his hand dismissively, irritation etched across his features. “Call a cab yourself. I’m not going to the office today. I have other things to attend to.”
With that, he turned on his heel and ascended the staircase, leaving Hannah in a cloud of unspoken words and unresolved tension.
In the living room, Grace remained a calm observer, her demeanor unflappable. She lifted her teacup to her lips, blowing gently on the steaming liquid, her gaze inscrutable.
It was clear that Amelia still had a hold over Ethan, an influence that was not easily shaken.
If Grace played her cards right, it would be a simple matter to extinguish Hannah’s fanciful aspirations.
Meanwhile, Amelia sat in her room, the silence enveloping her as she wrestled with her chaotic thoughts. Time slipped away, and she realized she could no longer linger in this limbo.
Straightening the carefully selected outfit she had laid out for herself, she inhaled deeply, summoning her resolve before making her way downstairs.
In the living room, Mason was absorbed in a tablet, his presence as cold as the winter air.
Amelia paused a few steps away from him, her voice coming out dry and tinged with bitterness. “Mr. Everett, I appreciate your hospitality last night. It’s getting late, and I really should return to the villa to retrieve my car.”
Mason didn’t even bother to glance up. He simply closed the tablet and rose from his seat. “I’ll give you a ride.”
A wave of panic surged through Amelia, and she quickly shook her head. “No, no, please, don’t go to the trouble. I can easily call a cab. I wouldn’t want anyone to see us together; it wouldn’t be appropriate.”
But as her eyes met Mason’s steady gaze, every protest she had prepared to voice evaporated.
“Hmm?” His expression remained calm, yet the weight of his presence was undeniable, pressing down on her like the heavy humidity before a storm.
Amelia swallowed hard, her resolve crumbling, and she lowered her gaze, conceding without uttering another word.
The drive to the villa unfolded in a thick silence, the atmosphere heavy with unspoken thoughts.
