Ana
She sat with Maddie, Zara and Londyn, Ocean was still snuggled up in her bed sleeping, and she would leave her there for now. She didn’t need to get up so early. She looked at each one of them and then just stated the facts “I came across one of Highland Hills’ wolves last night out in the woods; that was where I was born.” she clarified for them all “He recognised me as well.”
“You were at Peirce’s, so how did that come about?” Maddie frowned at her.
“Peirce and I…are no longer a couple. We got into a fight and broke up.” she told them honestly.
They were all staring at her now, looking very confused, she’d been with him for a long time, and they never fought. “About?” Zara had asked “He dotes on you.”
“No, he doesn’t.” she muttered “Has been sleeping with his ex-wife for… I don’t know how long. I found out last night, could smell her in the house, smell the sex as well.”
They were all just staring at her wide-eyed. “I didn’t see it coming either,” she muttered, and she hadn’t.” Apparently, he still loves her and she him.”
“Bullshit.” Maddie grated out.
“Let it go, we got bigger issues. That wolf I saw last night was, Yuri, the future Delta, could well actually be the current Delta to that pack. If he’s in the area, it’s likely so will the rest of the unit be.”
“So, what do you want to do? Do you think he followed you home?” Maddie asked her now.
“No, I knocked him unconscious, and he fell into a ravine. I left him there. He’s tough though, will wake up at some point.”
“You’re certain he recognised you?” Londyn murmured “And was he unconscious or dying out there?”
“I didn’t kill him. China assessed him. There was no scent of blood. If you’re concerned someone will find his body, out there in the woods don’t be, he’ll get up, and his wolf will heal him.”
She watched Londyn nod though she was still frowning, picked up her coffee and nodded as though she was happier with that detailed explanation.
“The others? I’ll need names and what they look like.” Maddie stated.
“I don’t know, they might head away from us. I ran north away from where I saw him. So if he does hunt me, and I’m not even certain he will, after I attacked him, he’ll head for Rockwood.” she nodded “I doubt they are here looking for me, it’s been seven years, give or take a few months… I’m hoping it was a mere coincidence.”
“Or,” Zara stated. “They have been looking for you all this time, and you just never knew it. Maybe this is the first time they’ve come this way, to this state. It’s not like it was easy to find you.”
Ana sighed “Honestly, I doubt it.”
“But you do have his child,” Maddie put out there.
“A child no one knows about. I didn’t tell anyone,” she reminded her.
“So, then why is he or one of his unit here, and wandering around out in the woods? Where exactly is your birthplace?”
“Arizona,” she answered simply.
“That’s on the other side of the country. They’re a long way from home.” Londyn sighed.
“Yes.” Maddie nodded, “it’s a bit too much of a coincidence in my book. You’re 100% certain this Yuri guy recognised you?”
“Yes, his eyes went very wide at seeing me, and he tried to say my old name got half of it out.”
“Not your Mate?” Londyn asked now.
Ana frowned at her now. “No, why ask that?”
“It was the full moon last night.” Londyn shrugged.
“Not my Mate. None of the Alpha unit are. I was with both the Gamma and Delta the full moon after I turned 18,” she shook her head. “You should recall that.”
“I was just curious if he could scent you via that Mate Bond scent you told me about, is all. If it’ll get past the scent masking oil? Just clarification.”
She’d simply gotten the shock of her life at seeing someone from her past here in Maine was all. It was nothing more than that, she’d also not had Ocean with her, so that was good. Her daughter was still safe as yet, and would get to lead the life she wanted to.
Anna set about doing the housework and prepping for a nice dinner. She’d cook for everyone tonight. She logged in to the wolfen intranet, via Alpha Austin’s pack, and put her old name into the search bar, to see if anyone was looking for her. Yet again, there was nothing, no missing wolfen report with the council, no registered hunt or retrieval mission with her name attached to it.
So no, that old pack was not looking for her. It was just a coincidence, she was relieved to know this. Was even more relieved when Zara came home with Ocean that afternoon from school and stated there were no issues. That no one had followed her Jeep, nothing at all out of the ordinary had happened in town.
She put dinner in front of them all, and they chatted casually. Maddie told her the day was boring. There was not even any gossip going on in town. That she’d come across Pierce, and he was unhappy with the words she had with him.
Ana sighed when Ocean asked why he was unhappy, and she told her the truth, that she and Pierce weren’t going to be seeing each other anymore. Though she didn’t explain why, she just told her that relationships were complicated, and it didn’t always work out.
Ocean and stared at her for a long minute and then just shrugged, stated like any good she-wolf would,”
He’s not your Mate, anyway.”
All of them had stared at Ocean, and then Londyn had chuckled and ruffled Ocean’s blonde hair, stated” there’s the she-wolf in you huh.”
Ocean had smiled at Londyn. “Yep, I’m going to be fun like you auntie Londyn. Mad like auntie Maddie, and beautiful like auntie Zara.”
“I bet you will be all those things.” Londyn had laughed, they had all laughed.
Despite Ana’s fears from this morning, everything was just fine, nothing out of the ordinary had happened at all today, she’d worried for nothing. She liked that Ocean was being raised by the four of them, to be tough, strong and independent. She understood what they all were, what she was going to be herself, an alpha-blooded she-wolf, strong like her auntie Londyn.
Ocean, knew she had an alpha-blooded father out there somewhere in the wolfen world. That Ana had never told him about her, had left to make her own life, to live freely, and that he was unaware of her existence.
She’d not had an in-depth conversation about all the ins and outs of what had happened with Ocean, because she was just seven. She was a happy child in this life Ana had given her, being raised in a house with four women that all loved her. They were all family, and Ocean felt a kin bond to all of them, as much as Ana did. She didn’t appear to care about not having a father at all.
She would likely ask real questions one day, and Ana would tell her the truth once she was old enough to hear it. She would let her daughter judge for herself, and make a decision whether she wanted to go and find the wolf that was her father or not.
