Maddie
She and Londyn had talked causally after that run in with Yuri on the back porch, they’d not left the area, and anything to do with Ana or Zara had been held by a mind-link so undetectable to them. Ocean had to be told to say nothing during the evening, they’d had to have a quiet conversation with her, about other wolves in the area, while Ana had run her bath. To cover the conversation, Zara had also taken a shower at the same time.
They told her there were four wolves here and hunting them, that they knew Maddie and Londyn lived here but not Ana, Zara or herself, and that they were trying to keep it that way for now. So if she could be quiet, watch a movie or play a game, that would be good.
She was definitely curious about what was going on, she’d looked at her mother for a long moment, and then just nodded her head slowly. Maddie got the distinct impression that Ocean was not so dumb. She’d been yanked out of school, and her mother was staying home, and they’d not left the house in a week.
There were wolves in town and hunting for them. It was likely that Ocean actually understood it was her father, and her mother didn’t want him finding them. She’d never asked about him, but all children were curious about the parent that was not in their lives, human or wolfen alike. She was a good kid, but also knew she was Alpha-blooded, so her dad would likely have a unit much like they were themselves.
She was, Maddie thought, just sitting back waiting to see what was going to happen was all. Would she or would she not get to meet the man who was her father? And likely she was curious as to if he was a good person or not.
She was also likely to be curious about why her mother had left him. Though there was no filigree or marking scar on Ana, so she would understand that they hadn’t been Mates. She was quietly waiting for the outcome, of all that was going on around her. Is what Maddie thought.
Ana had run off at 0430 and come back just on 0730. Though she had not been able to get back, to collect her own necklace, out there in the woods where she’d left it. Due to it had been all four of those men out there hunting her, not just Slade, but his entire unit were spread out hunting for her.
Ana had smelled them all out there, when she’d been making her way back with the necklace that Maddie had stashed out there right near the portal itself. Had placed it on a rock right next to the portal so when Ana put it on, it would have her rogue scent vanish right at the portal. Giving the elusion she had passed on through it, as was the plan.
Ana had left hers near the Little Mud Pond, to make sure her rogue scent was well away from the house where they lived. Especially now that those men knew where she and Londyn lived, they needed to keep that connection away from the house.
Maddie herself had ducked off from the house at one in the morning. Her plan had been delayed because those two boys, Palmer and Yuri, had decided to sit and watch the house for half the bloody night. They had stuck around until midnight, likely listening to their conversation, and trying to find out if Ana, Zara or Ocean lived there or not.
She’d waited just to be certain they were gone after she stopped scenting them close by, she’d waited one more hour before heading off herself. Though she’d taken her truck as far in as she could, and then shifted to tawny who’d carried that necklace in a pouch to the portal and raced them back.
If one knew how to get there, it was easy to get to. There was a dedicated path in and out. It had also been snowing pretty good by the time she’d gotten out of her truck, and that was good, it would leave her scent but cover her tracks and she took the same route in as out. Unlike Ana would.
She was certain that if all four of them were going to hunt Ana that they’d split up and hunt her scent as well. She had put her necklace on when back in the car where she’d left it, and gotten home just as Ana was getting ready to leave herself. Ana was going to be all over the place, and she knew China was damned fast and would be moving at full wolfen speed. To get a head of them if they picked her up quickly.
She’d come home and stated “Not a problem,” she hadn’t seen any of them, only scented them on the way back due to the wind’s direction. Though she’d been lucky to pick up Palmer and Yuri, she had actually heard them talking out there, not scented them. If not for that, she’d likely have run right into them out in the snow. Pot luck, she’d thought.
Their day here in the café was going smoothly. Maddie, Zara and Londyn had headed off to the café as per normal, and Ana had mind-linked to them all to say she could no longer smell Palmer and Yuri on the winds, they had moved on away from the area. That had been at 0930.
So, they were likely to be further east in the mountains with their Alpha and Beta, gone through that portal or had come back to their place of accommodation, frustrated that they’d not found anything at all.
“At all, even after they left?” she queried.
“Ross and I had a short conversation in my office. I’ll not lead that man or his men to Ana. Who is he?” he’d asked.
“Now, none of your business anymore. Oh hey, congratulations, I hear your ex left you already. Got what you deserved, I see.” he’d not replied after that, but she was then dead certain from that information she’d just gotten.
That Slade and his unit now knew about Ocean, that Ana had a daughter and her name was probably Ocean. They’d all been in the café often enough to read the specials board. Ana and Ocean’s special were up there. They had heard in her café that Ana had dumped Peirce for cheating on her, and they knew Ana was one of the sisters. Her name was on the window.
Maddie was now 100% certain right now that those four men, knew Ana was Oriana, and they were not going anywhere at all. They were in for the long haul, were not going to leave until they found what they were looking for. His missing Beta, she didn’t know if they knew if Ocean was his or not. But if they did think that, they were never leaving town.
If they didn’t think that they would be curious as to who Ocean’s father was, and they could well think she might even be Peirce’s, therefore that man was definitely under surveillance.
It also meant that now she, Zara and Londyn were going to be under surveillance as well. They’d found the house yesterday, and Yuri had damned near been lip locked with Londyn. The girl had never had a wolfen. lover before, nor had one of them turn on the charm for her either. She was only young, at 22, and curious about wolves. It was only natural and none of them could blame her.
They weren’t going to be able to hide Ana and Ocean forever in that house. A new plan was going to have to be made, or sooner or later Slade would get tired of the hunt, and just barge into the house to see what he could find about Ana, see if she was there in the house hiding out of sight.
