Not just the Beta (Oriana and Slade) novel Chapter 210

Slade

He was outside the packhouse waiting with his unit Dariah and Clay had come down here for it. He’d not seen any interaction with Clay and that boy now walked over there and stared down at Roman, then just put a hard kick to the man’s ribs, and they all heard Roman cry out in pain and his ribs break. Clay had used his Alpha strength, it seemed.

Then he hunkered down in front of him. “You’re despicable, but just to let you know, Vaness and I have a son, he’s two, and I stalled constantly, had them stall all the time, so you would never be able to hurt her, hurt my son. I didn’t know the extent of what you got up to, but I was not stupid, I saw what Slade saw, the deceit of who you were, just like Dariah did, and I too, just played along, like she did, until Slade came home.

“I took a page right out of Slade’s book, learned to act the part you gave me to play. I know you offered Dariah medical interns here. I told her myself, Obsidian had better resources and encouraged her to go there, to keep her away from you.” he looked at Elise “I’d beat her to, but I don’t think she’ll survive. So, as her Mate, you can take the punishment for her.” he punched that man in the face and then came back to stand in line with himself and Dariah.

Slade smiled at him, they’d all taken a piece of that man now.

The former Elders of the previous pack strolled out of the packhouse and more than half the pack turned up. All those with wolves, just not the little ones he realised, were all here to oversee the punishment of their former leadership. Who were now just traitors, and not just to those that lived here, but to all Wolfen Kind; they were now seen as the worst of the worst.

Ryder and her unit were busy setting themselves up, as the pack arrived to watch, he saw her walk past each one, after she had loosed a blade from under a wrist guard, and she cut each one of them across the check, a tiny nick. As she walked back, he was looking at the other members of The Kings Eyes and noticed they all had that cuff and the marking on their foreheads.

She stopped at the empty post and turned to look at them. “Where is he?”

“Dead,” Slade answered her. “At the hands of the one he raised but betrayed from birth, she saw fit to kill him, and I saw no reason as to why she couldn’t.” He watched Ryder look right at Ana, even knew who his kin was; that was weird.

“Hmm, too lenient a punishment in my eyes.” Was all she stated and then turned to the gathered crowd. “Today you will see the defanging of traitors, this will be just the beginning, but I feel you are all entitled to see their first official punishment considering the circumstances… I will take this foul lot back to be presented to King Christian, and he will deal with any further punishments. I’m certain the council will relay it to you later on.”

“May I do it?” Slade asked as he watched one of her unit tilt Roman’s head back. The man appeared lifeless, and Slade only now realised she’d cut them all with Belladonna Lilly Toxin o blade, to make sure they couldn’t fight their punishment but feel it in full.

“He has hurt so many that I know, myself, my sister those that I love. I believe Ryder, it will cause him more pain, to know that I do this to him and willingly so, because I believe he truly does deserve it.” Slade stated.

Ryder looked at him, shrugged “Be my guest. I’ll take it one step further. Those of your kin, or leadership that want to step up to attend this punishment themselves. I, as The Kings Eyes, will grant that wish. Those that don’t, I will do the job myself.” she nodded “Have you seen it done before, or ever done this?” she asked Slade.

“No.” he answered honestly, as he walked over to her.

It wasn’t something that was seen regularly as punishment, worse than death is what it was considered. Without fangs, your wolf was weakened, and some could never emerge again depending on the will of the man and his beast.

“I’ll show you how, as I explain.” Ryder stated, “To force his fangs to surface, which they can no longer resist against, while under the influence of the Belladonna Lilly Toxin.”

Slade watched her as she lifted Roman’s top lip and touched a place right above one of his fangs. There is a nerve here. Press hard on it, some milking of the nerve maybe needed… Like this.” She stated, and he saw her finger press against it, and then she rocked her finger back and forth until Roman’s fang protruded and was fully extended.

“Keep the pressure on the nerve, or it will retract at his will. No wolf or human counterpart wants to be defanged. You may either grab the fang and snap it off, towards yourself or, if you like, pull it straight down and remove it at the root. Either way s effective, and both will make certain it never extends again.” Ryder told him and let go. He saw that fang retract near instantly.

“I’ll want all the fangs for King Christian.” She stated “Just hand them to me as you go.”

He nodded “Thank you, Ryder, for educating me.” he told her and turned to look at Roman. “You deserve this.” He stated as he applied pressure to that nerve and milked it to make that fang extend, it worked just as he’d been shown.

Slade took hold of the fang when it was fully extended and saw anger in Roman’s eyes. He ignored it, and he and Hail yanked it with all their strength to remove it at the root, and they saw tears flood out of Roman’s eyes. The man couldn’t move a muscle or make a single sound, due to the toxin in him, but he felt everything that was being done to him.

Slade stood and watched on as those seven were released from the shaming posts completely. and they were moved to where that chain that was how laid out, had been set up prior to this, and they were all shackled to it by both wrists, and left there to come around from that toxin.

“Do you mind taking one more,” he asked. “There is a man in the cells. A prisoner I’ve had for five and a half years. He is the Beta’s son and a traitor in his own right. The king can have him seen into for his crimes and decide what to do with him. I don’t want him inside my pack. He was of detriment to Ana, and tried to kill me once.”

Ryder looked at him, shrugged “What’s one more to my chain gang!”

“I’ll retrieve him, Slade.” Vance stated.

“Thank you.” Slade nodded to him.

He understood what he was looking at and, from Ryder’s own words, this lot were being prepared for transportation through that portal and back to the kingdom for further punishments. Likely to be held in a cell until the full extent of all other packs involvement was determined.

Maybe even have to wait on their final punishment until every single one of those moonstones had been retrieved and everyone bound by them, were free of them, and able to file their own grievance. After learning what had been done to them.

It would only be a few hours now and all those traitors would be gone from his pack, to never be seen again. He was glad of it. He’d never, in all the years he’d been gone from this pack, even conceived of how interictally planned out, everything had been. That those he’d known his whole life, had been so steeped in deception, coercion and betrayal. They’d had a whole pack that trusted them, and none were any the wiser.

He was glad to have held fast to his own belief, that Roman and Elise, the two wolves that had birthed him and raised him, with what he could only describe as love and care; because he’d never once felt unloved or tormented, not even hurt by them. They weren’t fit to reign over a pack.

Slade was glad he’d voiced as much to Gretta at Alpha College, that he and the boys had all agreed that him writing that scroll and sealing it with his blood; his intent, this was the right way to deal with those that had ruled Highland Hills.
