Not just the Beta (Oriana and Slade) novel Chapter 55

Ana

It was time to test out their theory about Alpha Austin and his sudden turning up in their town for seemingly no reason at all. They had discussed it and were going to lay a trap for that Alpha, to see if Ana’s theory was right. It was they both knew a real risk to their own livelihoods, with him not only being an Alpha to his own pack, but also on the Wolfen Council as well.

But with him not being able to scent either of them, and recognise them as she-wolves, it was unlikely that they would get caught, they had weighed up the odds and come to the decision they were in their favour. Hopefully, all would go well and to plan, they now knew it only took eight and a half hours to get here from Austin’s pack, without stops.

They were actively going to time him, from the moment they accessed the wolfen intranet via his pack, until they saw him here in town. If he showed up. If he didn’t and no one from his pack came, then all the times he’d appeared in Greenville were purely coincidence.

That was what they were actually hoping for, the best outcome. Ana had smelled him the last time he had been here, before Ocean was born. His pack scent was kind of cold and crisp, like taking in that first breath of a cold winter’s morning after it had been snowing, when stepping outside for the first time.

She sat with Maddie at her desk, it was 3am and Ocean had just been fed and put back to bed.

Ana watched as Maddie accessed the wolfen intranet via Alpha Austin’s pack. They had picked this particular time of night on purpose, to determine if every access by his pack was flagged, and to see if he would be alerted to this.

They knew he’d likely get up for 5am training or Ana thought so. It was stand training time in most packs she knew, so she figured he’d be the same. Then, after training, he’d be in his office by 9am to see that alert if there was one, that someone from outside his pack had accessed the wolfen intranet.

She was hoping to be able to tell if he was flagged instantly himself, or notifications for it were checked later on each day. That she should be able to deduct which it was by the time of his arrival, here in their town. If he turned up, that was, he should get here anywhere between 12pm and 6pm.

Though both she and Maddie were hoping that he wasn’t going to turn up, that no one from his pack showed up at all. But even as Maddie exited the intranet, she sighed a little on the dreamy side and murmured, “I hope he turns up. He gets me all hot and bothered.”

Ana chuckled softly, “Just ask him out next time he’s here, he always comes into the café.”

“I’m unlikely to keep our secret if I bed him.” Maddie sighed. “Likely only she-wolves and other worldly creatures could take what I imagine, to be between those nicely muscled legs of his.”

That made Ana a little curious. “Have you ever had sex with a wolf before?” she knew Maddie had left that pack at 17, and was expected to be mated to the Alpha, it was unlikely that he would let anyone touch her. When he’d promised to wait until she was 18.

“No.” Maddie shook her head. “That doesn’t mean I haven’t seen what ranked wolves have

between their legs though. A big difference to humans.”

“Mm.” Ana nodded.

She got a little shove from Maddie “Oh, hey. I nearly forgot you’ve had sex with a wolf, an Alpha Wolf at that. Was it good?”

“It was just a drunken fuck, Maddie.” She shrugged “One that I’d like not to talk about.”

“Sorry, got me some she-wolf angst I guess.” Maddie sighed a little.

“So, have you ever with anyone?” Ana turned the talk to Maddie, seeing as they were on the subject.

“Yes, one human, a bit on the disappointing side to be honest, I thought sex was a big deal, you know…go for more than a few minutes. No such luck.”

“Wolves are different to humans in that regard.” Ana told her, “It usually is something that can go for hours or have multiple times during a night.”

“Lucky you.” Maddie smiled “I just sort myself out nowadays.”

“I know.” Ana chuckled softly “this house isn’t soundproof.”

“Sorry,” Maddie bit her lip a little.

“Don’t be, we’re a horny bunch. Go nuts, I just tune you out when you do.”

“What about you?” Maddie asked now.

“Hmm,” she thought about it. “No, I was pregnant, and now I have Ocean, and she sleeps in my room, I don’t think that’s appropriate.”

“You have needs though, surely?” Maddie smirked after a moment. “Let me buy you a toy or two.”

Ana really laughed now. “I’m good, content in my life, so I guess I don’t need it.”

“You will after Austin gets here.” Maddie laughed. “Goddess, I can go for hours with that man’s image in my brain.”

“You got it bad Maddie, you know that, right?” Ana shook her head.

“I do know that.” Maddie nodded “I also know there ain’t nothing going to fix it, bar Austin himself…

I’m off to bed.” She winked at Ana and got up.

“Enjoy your naughty thoughts.” Ana chuckled as she headed for her own room. She smiled down at little Ocean all tucked in and sleeping soundly, she was 8 months old now and could sit up, was learning to crawl. She often sat on the floor and leaned forward, rocked back and forth trying to crawl. It was very cute and she and Maddie would sit with her between them, and call to her to encourage her to rock in the hope that she would crawl to one of them.

They both thought that it wouldn’t be long now, a week or two, little Ocean never stopped trying when on the ground. But the cutest thing she did was try and say Maddie, it came out Mad Mad, like Mum Mum when Ocean was babbling away. It had been hilarious the first time she’d said it, just Mad had come out of her and then, two days later, Mad Mad.

Ana had laughed so hard and started saying Mad Maddie. Ocean could now say Maddie and

Mummy, but Ana had sat around and taught her to put the two words together. Mad Maddie, it was very funny to her.

Maddie had just shaken her head and stated, “Well, I am a mad genius.” Then laughed. They both laughed about it now and when they laughed, Ocean laughed as well. She clapped her hands when she laughed too, it was so adorable she’d started to mimic Ana who laughed and clapped her hands when Ocean got those two words out perfectly.

She found his eyes on her now, then they moved to Ocean in her arms. He smiled at the girl, “Well now, one can’t half tell that she is yours. How old is this little cutie?”

“Eight months and I know; she’s got my eyes.” Ana smiled.

“That she does.” He chuckled “Very pretty.”

“Thanks.” She stated simply it was a very common comment, and she was used to hearing it all the time. Not just from the town’s folk but the tourists as well. “Maddie, what are you doing for dinner tonight?” Ana asked her.

“Huh, what?” Maddie frowned at her more than a little.

She smiled all sweetly at Maddie, “The Italian place is open, why don’t you eat out tonight.” Ana then looked right at Austin and mouthed ‘It’s just dinner, ask her out.’

Saw him chuckle, and she actively walked away, latched on to his own Beta and pulled him away from the counter as well. Smiled up at him, and murmured softly to him, “My sister likes your friend, a dinner wouldn’t hurt right.”

“He is single.” Was the comment.

“And always comes in here for coffee. He must like something in this café.” she snorted a little.

“Ana!!!” Maddie was glaring at her now as she slid the two lattes across the counter “I’m sorry,” she muttered to Austin. “My sister, can be a bit of a pain.”

“Do you want to have dinner with us?” Austin countered.

“Um…” Maddie hesitated.

“I can’t. I’ve got to get Ocean bathed and into bed, keep her routine.” She looked right at his Beta pointedly.

“I’ve got to find us accommodation, Austin. Why don’t just you and Maddie have dinner!” He smiled.

Ana smiled right up at the man; glad he’d played along.

“Ana.” Maddie hissed at her.

“Go, you know you want to.” She smiled at Austin, “It’s a yes, give us like 10 to lock up.”

“I can do that, I’ll call the restaurant and make a reservation. You’re thinking Nico’s House?”

Ana smiled and nodded, clearly, he’d eaten here before or just took notice of all the business here, while he was searching for that one person that was accessing the Wolfen intranet from this town.
