Not just the Beta (Oriana and Slade) novel Chapter 59

Maddie

She was in the café when Austin and his Beta came in for breakfast. He smiled right at her, and she took his order and watched him go and sit outside to wait for it. Knew they were going to eat outside because they were currently here in Greenville on a fact-finding mission.

Somewhere in this town was a wolf that regularly, or two or three times a year, accessed that wolfen world intranet by way of his pack. He was here looking for that wolf. It was likely that he was not only notified of the access, but she thought, about the content as well.

If that was the case, then he knew about all the things she’d accessed over the years. He’d not made mention of their hook-up last night and neither had she. She didn’t think he was particularly interested in her at all, and now wondered as she looked at him if he’d only touched and tasted her out of guilt; because she’d thought it was a date, and it had not been for him.

She sighed a little to herself, and returned her attention to her job. The man had seemed to enjoy what had happened between them, but she knew it was just a one-night stand, so to speak. He’d be very unlikely to come into town later on and ask her out again, she certainly didn’t think he would be looking to see if she wanted to go there, and get naked once again.

He was, she thought, an actual gentleman. Not even his Beta looked at her in a knowing way, he knew what had happened, and that man would, as much as Ana had, have smelled her on his Alpha. Maddie did sigh now, and Ana looked right at her, at the heaviness of it, “What’s wrong Maddie?” she asked.

“Nothing.” Maddie shook her head. She couldn’t talk about it here with those two out there. They could be listening to their conversation. Were likely to have their hearing open for any wolfen talk. So they would pick up anything she said inside the café.

Ana frowned right at her and Maddie shook her head, sent a text message a moment later ‘Can’t discuss it here.’

Ana left it alone, she couldn’t mind-link to Ana with either one of those two men out there, if they happened to see it even by chance, they would recognise it instantly, and understand what they were; she-wolves.

Likely understand at that moment, that who they were looking for was right in front of them and that they were just scent masked so as not to be recognized was all. So no, neither of them would risk it, they knew better. She liked her nice, quiet life with Ana and Ocean, they were a happy and well-settled little family, and no wolf, Alpha or not, was going to disrupt that.

Ana took food out to them, and she watched her smile, and heard Austin ask her if she’d seen any wolves migrate to the area. Then explained to Ana, what he had to herself last night.

Ana shook her head. “I’ve not seen any wolves roaming about and I do go hiking.” She’d shrugged it off.

The man handed her a card and stated, “If you do, would you let me know, we’re trying to bring them back.”

Ana had nodded “Sure thing.” And walked away, came back inside the café. Looked right at Maddie and showed her the card “Mm. I got one last night.” Maddie told her simply “I didn’t even know they were trying to bring wolves here? Did you?”

“Nope, not something mentioned at the town meeting either.” Ana murmured.

“Curious.” Maddie nodded. “Might have to ask about it at the next meeting.”

“Probably.” Ana agreed with her “I don’t want to risk Ocean to Wolves.”

They’d kept their conversation to human talk in case Austin was listening. They were good at doing that now. Austin turned and looked at her before they got up and walked away, smiled right at her, and she smiled back at him. Didn’t think right this minute she should have let Ana talk her into going out to dinner with him.

She watched him and his Beta drive away and huffed “Why, did I let you talk me into last night?”

“Because you wanted to, is why?”

“Yeah! I might have been better off just daydreaming about that man, keeping things to my own imaginations.” Maddie murmured.

‘How long did you and Ocean’s dad have sex for?’

Ana turned and looked right at her now, then she just shrugged, ‘to be honest, I don’t know, I was more than a little tipsy, but a few hours at least.’

‘Hours?’

‘Yes, I told you once before, wolves are different to humans, they can have sex for a very long time, have stamina in spades. From what I saw and heard growing up. The higher the rank, the longer they can have sex. I’d be guessing it’s something to do with their training and the control they have to have in certain situations.’

‘I lucked out, because he thought I was human.’ She murmured.

‘Try and think of it as you can still daydream about the man.’

Maddie nodded. It was likely she would do that, probably for the best. She still thought he was a dreamboat, and he was a gentleman. She smiled a little as she realised, that regardless of what had happened, she was still attracted to Alpha Austin. “Goddess.” She sighed out loud and caught Ana’s attention once more. “I am going to go there again, if he wants to, I won’t be able to stop myself, I’m still attracted to him.”

Ana chuckled softly now. “See, you’re still happy about it, no longer annoyed even are you.”

“No,” Maddie shook her head, and she wasn’t. So what if she didn’t get the actual sex, she got everything else from him. If he strolled into the café and asked her out, she would say yes, enjoy his company for as long as he wanted, be sated by him, enjoy all he would do to her even if there was no sex.

The one human she’d had sex with, didn’t compare at all to Alpha Austin, not even in the foreplay part.
