Not just the Beta (Oriana and Slade) novel Chapter 60

Austin

Arriving in Greenville, he knew that the wolf he and his Beta Brodey were looking for, if, as they suspected; which they did. Lived here in the town of Greenville, or maybe they were somewhere here on Moosehead Lake, in one of the smaller townships. They would likely know that he was going to come and investigate, as he had done over the past four years.

He was certain this wolf, be it she-wolf or he-wolf, likely found it highly amusing that not only had they used him, but were still doing so. They knew they were good at hiding even from the Wolfen Council, and were likely playing with fire in a manner of speaking, but still thought it was funny. He could punish them as Alpha Austin, or as a Wolfen Council member. That was completely at his discretion. He could if he wanted to punish them, as both.

Though none of the access to his pack had ever been detrimental or caused him a problem, never harmed his pack, none of it had hurt him or his wolves. It was nowadays more of a pure curiosity to him than a track and retrieve mission.

He wanted to sit down with this person and ask them why. Why were they out here? Who were they? Where had they come from? What was their reason for not finding another pack to affiliate themselves with? Why live with humans and not wolves? What to them, was the benefit of living the human life, instead of the wolfen life?

He was also curious about their rank and how old they were. Were they alone or did they have their family with them? If they were rogues, had their Alpha kicked them out, and banished them with nowhere to go? Had they not been offered another pack to go to? Or had they gone rogue on their own? All of these questions he wanted answers to.

There were six packs in this State and that wolf could likely use any one of them to access the wolfen intranet. Yet they insisted on using him and his pack. Was it a simple power thing? To show the wolfen world that they were better at hiding themselves than the council was at finding them? Or had it been a chance meeting one day, and they’d found out who he was, and simply used that all the time now?

No one knew and without finding the wolf in question and asking them, he doubted he would be able to know the answer to those questions.

So today, after he’d had breakfast, he and Brodey his Beta were taking a stroll to listen to the town folk talk among themselves about whatever it was they normally did. At least the place wasn’t covered in snow like the last time he’d been here, and everyone had stayed indoors. Today was a lovely spring day, and there were plenty of people out and about.

He’d gotten nothing from the lovely Maddie, the owner of this café, other than a nice dinner out, and a fun time in the woods later on. It had not really surprised him all that much that young Maddie was up for him touching her, however he pleased. Which he had, sated some of his own needs while pleasing that young lady.

The whole time he’d been coming here, right from the very first day he’d walked into that café of hers, years ago. When passing through and had stopped to get lunch, him and his unit. He’d seen the way she’d looked up at him, they all had; It was just like how most human women looked at him, with that, oh my Goddess is he real, or Goddess, he’s hot, look.

Hell, the she-wolves looked at him like that as well, got all dreamy-eyed and desire and lust rolled off of them. Maddie had been no different. He came in here every time they passed by because he liked the coffee, and the service was impeccable. Maddie was always a happy smiling girl, he’d observed her with her customers. She was well liked and prided herself on a very clean café, with good service.

Likely why she did so well here, the locals had liked her and she and her café were a hot spot, he thought for those that lived here to meet up. She’d opened it with a plan in mind, likely, he’d thought, always wanted to do this; run her own café. She appeared to be really happy in her chosen

career. One could see it when they watched her.

Though he was willing to bet that her parents had helped her open it, she’d only been young, but here she was all these years later, still working and happily so. He didn’t think he’d ever seen her truly be annoyed or angry, hardly even seen the girl frown. Had seen her shift her glasses and pinch the bridge of her nose in thought, and shake her head a few times, but that was it.

Though she was human, he smelled that much, and he wasn’t about to go and have sex with a human woman, he’d likely hurt them. He had a few she-wolves that could handle the size of him and one very delectable Kitsune, who helped the wolfen council out with many things. She was more than happy to climb on top of him and sate both his and her needs, and could always handle him.

He was 200 and not yet mated off at this time, so him entertaining she-wolves or human women to a certain degree was alright with him. Maddie always smelled nice as that desire rolled off of her, at just seeing him walk into her café, sometimes it took less than a minute for him to pick up on it and smiling right at the girl, and then the woman as she’d grown up. That brought about the scent much quicker.

But it had not escaped his attention when ordering breakfast that she’d been a little distant this morning, and though he was curious as to why, he was putting it down to them not actually having sex like she’d wanted to.

She’d also not known anything about wolves at all. His cover story was completely bogus, but she wouldn’t know that. He refrained himself from turning and looking at her and her so-called sister. He was curious about that. They looked nothing alike, but they had a good sibling bond, from what he could tell.

Who knew if they were actual sisters or just close friends that considered themselves sisters? For all he knew, they could share one parent, have the same mother but different fathers or the same father but different mothers, be adopted or foster sisters, step-sisters that just really got along.

Anything was possible.

Ana, though, she was clearly the younger of the two of them, and he’d seen her the last time he’d been here, was a young mother and her sister had offered to help her raise the little girl. He could see Maddie was the type of person to do that. Did not see her turning her sister in need away, she was too nice a person to do that.

He’d seen that little girl, and she was more than cute, had big amazing eyes just like her mother, had stared up at him and been all smiles, just like Ana and Maddie, a happy baby, because the two raising her were also happy, he thought.

He’d listened to them discuss a town meeting and that no one had ever mentioned anything about wolves being brought into the area. Nearly sighed out loud he was going to have to make the cover he’d given Maddie, a real thing. Send a letter to the town’s mayor and the local sheriff’s office about reintroducing wolves to Maine so that if they see wolves in the forests, they were not to actively hunt them. Were part of a wolf relocation project.

He didn’t much like it, but with how those two were talking, the whole town would be on the lookout for wolves within a few days. On the bright side, the next time he came by he could ask anyone of the town folk about wolves, and they’d not get suspicious or think he was weird.
