Chapter 100
Chapter 100
“Miss you? Yeah, right!” Ophelia muttered under her breath, grinding her teeth in frustration. ‘This guy is such a headache, she thought.
“Ophelia, who was that on the phone?” Zoe asked, trying to sound casual, though inside, she felt like she was about to cough up blood.
She’d heard it loud and clear, it was Alaric’s voice.
Ophelia put her phone away, her eyes icy. “Just someone with issues.”
“Issues?” Zoe was stunned. ‘Why would Ophelia say that about Alaric?’ she wondered.
But Ophelia didn’t feel like talking anymore. She was already heading upstairs.
Zoe stood frozen. She’d heard it clearly, it was Alaric’s voice.
‘Did Ophelia spend the whole day with Alaric?’ Zoe wondered.
‘He just dropped her off yesterday, and now they’re out together again. Is there something going on between them?’ Zoe’s mind spun.
Zoe didn’t dare think any further. A chill ran down her spine.
“Zoe,” Victoria called out, a little confused. “Did I just hear Ophelia? Where is she?”
“She went back to her room,” Zoe said, quickly smoothing out her expression and putting on her usual sweet face.
Victoria looked down at the fruit platter in her hands. She’d gone to grab some fruit from the kitchen, and when she heard Ophelia’s voice, she picked up a bit more. But by the time she came back, Ophelia had already gone upstairs.
“I’ll take it up to her,” Victoria said, heading toward the elevator.
But Zoe stopped her. “Mom, let Chloe bring it up. You should sit down and have some too.”
With that, Zoe gently led Victoria over to the couch and continued, “You’ve had a long day. Let me give you a shoulder rub and help you unwind.”
Victoria smiled warmly. “Alright, our Zoe is always the sweetest.”
“Chloe, could you take the fruit up to Ophelia?” Zoe called out.
“Of course, Miss Zoe,” Chloe replied, grabbing the fruit and heading upstairs.
Zoe started massaging Victoria’s shoulders, her thoughts swirling. ‘Ever since Ophelia came back, everyone’s eyes have been on her. I need to reclaim some of the attention that should’ve been mine, she thought, determination flickering in her
eyes.
Another day slipped by in the blink of an eye.
It was finally the first day of classes.
After breakfast, Ophelia and Zoe headed out to the courtyard.
“Ophelia, since your car isn’t back yet, how about we go to school together?” Zoe suggested, sounding warm and inviting.
“Or you could ride with me,” Dylan chimed in, offering Ophelia another choice.
Ophelia shook her head with a calm look. “I’m not going to school today.”
“If you’re not going to school, where are you headed?” Zoe asked, looking genuinely puzzled.
Ophelia raised an eyebrow at Zoe, then flashed a playful, mysterious smile. “I’ve got plans with someone.”
Zoe’s face went pale, and her grip on her fork tightened.
‘Who is she meeting? Is it Alaric?’ Zoe wondered, her heart pounding.
‘They’ve been in touch a lot these past few days. Are they meeting up again today?’ Zoe’s mind raced.
Gritting her teeth, Zoe forced a concerned look and asked, “Is it ‘a friend? Are you going alone? Do you want me to come with you?”
‘No way. I have to find a way to tag along. I can’t let them keep meeting up alone, Zoe thought, her determination growing. Seeing Zoe’s eager face, Ophelia’s lips curled into a mocking smirk. She acted reluctant, drawing out her words. “You really
want to come with me?”
Zoe nodded enthusiastically, her eyes sparkling. “Of course! I’d love to go with you, Ophelia.”
‘If Ophelia agrees, I’ll get to see Alaric today. Maybe I’ll even get some alone time with him, and maybe he’ll finally notice me,’

Zoe thought, her heart pounding with excitement.
Just thinking about it made Zoe’s eyes light up, like she was about to see Alaric any second now.
