Chapter 114
“You’re too kind, Mr. Lawson,” Ophelia replied with a calm smile, neither servile nor proud.
Mr. Lawson had never dared to look down on Rowan, and after just a few moments with her, he realized even more just how extraordinary this girl Ophelia was.
“Ms. Draven, please,” Mr. Lawson said as he stepped aside, motioning for Ophelia to go ahead. His respect for her was almost excessive, as if he was terrified of offending her.
At that moment, Cameron, who’d been standing there in a daze for ages, finally snapped back to reality. He stared at Ophelia, eyes wide with shock, his voice cracking as he blurted out, “You’re Rowan Draven?”
It was almost impossible for him to wrap his head around it, but he trusted Mr. Lawson. If Mr. Lawson vouched for it, then there was no way it could be wrong.
And then another realization hit him, Ms. Prescott was actually the representative from Maplewood Capital who had visited the Vossen Group before. They must’ve crossed paths back then.
“So, Mr. Vossen, got any objections?” Ophelia’s lips curled into a taunting smirk, her eyes cold and amused, Cameron felt his heart sink, as if he’d been dropped into an ice pit.
Cameron took an unsteady step back, regret flooding his chest.
‘This is Rowan Draven, the one who’s been backing the Vossen Group all this time,’ he thought, mind spinning.
‘Turns out, the Vossen Group’s success all these years was thanks to Ophelia, As soon as she left the Vossen residence, she pulled her investment, and now the company’s about to go under…’
Cameron snapped to attention, anger flaring as he stepped forward. “If you’re Rowan Draven, why did you keep it hidden from us all these years?” he demanded.
‘If we’d known Ophelia was Rowan Draven, the Vossen Group wouldn’t be in this mess, Cameron thought bitterly.
Ophelia let out a mocking laugh, arching an eyebrow. “Why would I ever tell you?”
“You…” Cameron stammered, then retorted, “You’re part of this family! Isn’t it your job to help out?”
“Are you seriously saying I haven’t helped?” Ophelia shot back with a cold, bitter laugh. “If it wasn’t for me, would the Vossen Group even still be here? Don’t tell me you don’t know that.”
Without her investment, the Vossen Group would’ve gone bankrupt ages ago.
“That’s just what you’re supposed to do for the family,” Cameron said stubbornly, his chin raised in defiance. In his mind, Ophelia owed it to them.
“Yeah, and I did,” Ophelia replied with a casual shrug, her smile light and unconcerned. But to Cameron, it stung, sharp and
cutting.
‘Yeah, she did,’ Cameron admitted to himself, resentment simmering inside.
‘But now she’s done with all that!’
“I don’t care! Since you’re Rowan Draven, you need to transfer those funds back right now. That money was always supposed to be the Vossen family’s!”
Cameron was so blinded by rage he could barely think straight. In his mind, Ophelia had been playing them all along, hiding who she was just to snatch up the family’s assets for herself.
“Seriously, is there any limit to how shameless your family can get?” Ella was so mad she actually laughed, her words sharp
as knives.
“If Boss hadn’t been there all these years, your company would’ve crashed and burned ages ago. She saved your neck time after time, so what did you ever do for her?”
Ella snorted in contempt, not holding back as she went for Cameron’s weak spot. “Boss gave everything, and what did she get? You only ever cared about your precious sons, nitpicking her for every little thing.
“She swallowed it all just because you were family, and in the end, you heartlessly threw her out of the Vossen residence. Now you have the nerve to ask her to keep pouring money into you?”
Ella fired off every grievance Ophelia had suffered over the years, her words rapid-fire, laying out all the pain and injustice without mercy.
