Chapter 117
Ophelia shot Zoe a frosty glare, her voice cold as ice. “Didn’t I already tell you? I was out taking care of something.”
“What could you possibly be doing that keeps you out so late, Ophelia?” Zoe asked, her smile sweet but her eyes full of fake concern, pretending to make small talk.
Ophelia curled her lips into a sneer. “Are you actually worried about me, or just trying to snoop on my private life?”
‘Whatever I do has nothing to do with her,’ Ophelia thought coldly.
Zoe froze for a second, then forced a nervous smile, trying to play it off. “Of course I care about you, Ophelia. You only just got back, and you barely know your way around Dunhollow.
“I was just worried it might be dangerous for you to be out so late by yourself.”
“Oh? And how do you know I was alone?” Ophelia arched an eyebrow, her words dripping with implication.
Zoe’s heart lurched, her face instantly draining of color.
‘She wasn’t by herself? Was she really with Alaric last night?’ A wave of dread and jealousy crashed over Zoe, making her
stomach twist.
“So if you weren’t alone, who were you with last night, Ophelia?” Zoe asked, trying to sound casual but clearly fishing for the truth.
‘I need to know if it was Alaric. I just have to, Zoe fretted, jealousy and anxiety twisting inside her.
“Zoe, enough already. Ophelia said it’s her private business, why do you have to keep digging?” Owen frowned, clearly annoyed.
Zoe bit back, her voice tinged with frustration. “Owen, I’m just looking out for Ophelia, okay? I was worried something might happen to her, that’s all.”
“Zoe, seriously, use your head before you talk,” Owen snapped, his voice cold. “Ophelia just had some stuff to deal with, what’s the worst that could happen? She’s not a kid anymore. She knows how to look after herself.”
Zoe’s face darkened with embarrassment as Owen shut her down, but she could only grit her teeth and force herself to hold back. “Fine, I wasn’t thinking straight.”
“Good, as long as you know,” Owen said, shooting Zoe a look. “Instead of wasting your energy overthinking, maybe you should actually prepare for the math competition prelims.
“You were so worried Ophelia wouldn’t even pass, but wouldn’t it be hilarious if you end up losing to her? Now that would be embarrassing.”
Zoe’s face was all over the place, changing colors like a mood ring as Owen kept roasting her and hitting her right where it
hurt.
Owen might be the youngest, but he was the last person Zoe wanted to cross. If anyone pissed him off, he would drag them mercilessly and leave no dignity intact.
“Oh, Owen, you’re just teasing. Zoe’s always been at the top of her class, and she’s won plenty of awards in competitions. She’ll definitely do great this time too,” Chloe said, stepping in with a deferential smile to smooth things over.
“We’ll only know who comes out on top after the competition,” Owen said, his tone easing a little as he addressed Chloe.
Then Owen turned to Ophelia, his face lighting up with a huge grin. “I’m sure you’ll ace it, Ophelia! You’ll breeze through the prelims, no sweat.”
Ophelia smiled, reaching out to ruffle Owen’s hair. “Look at you, always so sure.”
“Hehe, Owen giggled, his eyes crinkling with joy. “Obviously! You’re the best, Ophelia!”
He was a total fanboy, and Ophelia just felt all warm and fuzzy inside.
“Come on, let’s go grab some breakfast before we’re late for school,” Ophelia said, taking Owen by the hand and heading toward the dining room, not even sparing Zoe or Chloe a second glance.
Compared to those two scheming master and servant, spending time with this thoughtful little guy was so much more heartwarming.
Watching Ophelia walk away, Zoe was burning Successfully unlocked th in rage. “I bet she’s off to throw herself at
Alaric again,” she hissed, her words laced with it
‘Why else would she refuse to say where she had been last night?’ Zoe thought angrily.

“Zoe, don’t get worked up. Just focus on the competition. If you win, it’ll prove you’re better than her. Once you get the award, throw a celebration party and invite Mr. Caldwell. He’ll definitely be impressed by you,” Chloe said, trying to calm Zoe
down.
Zoe forced down her anger, her eyes flashing with malice as she glared at Ophelia’s back. ‘That’s right. I have to get a top score and crush Ophelia under my feet, she thought.

At Dunhollow University’s Multi-purpose Room.
The school had already sent out a notice: students participating in the prelims should report directly to the Multi-purpose Room.
When Ophelia walked in, she saw that a lot of people were already there.
“Ophelia,” Ruby called out, waving her over. Ophelia walked over to her.
“Mr. Wells said we can sit wherever we want,” Ruby said with a gentle smile, her warmth making everyone feel at ease.
Ophelia took the empty seat next to Ruby and asked, “How much longer until it starts?”
“It should start once everyone’s here,” Ruby whispered. “I heard that for this prelim, it’s not just the teachers proctoring, and some seniors who already made the cut are supervising too.”
“They’re really going all out for this,” Ophelia shrugged, clearly unfazed.
It didn’t matter to her how many people were watching.
“Looks like you’re pretty confident,” Ruby said with a smile. “But I get it. You’re one of the few who got a direct pass.”
“Who even knows how she got that pass?” someone scoffed, dripping with contempt. “Guess she knew she couldn’t cut it, so she had to join the prelims like everyone else.”
“Daphne, did your brain shrink overnight or what? Already forgot what happened yesterday?” Ophelia’s eyes flashed cold, her voice frosty. “The school gave me that pass. I turned it down so you could see for yourself why you don’t deserve it.”
The way Ophelia held herself made Daphne’s heart jolt, and frustration instantly bubbled up inside her.
