119.Chapter 119
“I just can’t stand you, okay?” Daphne snapped, her temper flaring the moment she saw Ophelia, like a lit firecracker about to go off.
“Can’t stand me?” Ophelia raised an eyebrow, sounding totally unfazed. “Better brace yourself. The day you really lose it is still coming.”
‘If she can’t stand me now, she might as well poke her own eyes out later, Ophelia thought to herself.
“Results are coming out this afternoon. Let’s see how long you can keep pretending,” Daphne scoffed, her tone full of disdain.
Ophelia arched an eyebrow, flashing a confident grin. “Alright then, how about we make a bet?”
“Bet on what?” Daphne eyed Ophelia warily, already calculating her odds.
“On today’s prelim scores,” Ophelia said, arms folded, sounding totally chill. “If I score higher than you, you have to go on the school radio and publicly apologize to me and Ruby. But if you beat me… I’ll quit the advanced class.”
“Really?” Daphne looked intrigued, her interest clearly piqued.
She’d never wanted Ophelia in the advanced class anyway. Once she saw Ophelia gone, she would know precisely what the latter had left to be smug about.
“Deal,” Ophelia said without hesitation, not giving Daphne any chance to back out. She turned to the other students.” Everyone, be our witnesses.”
Seeing Ophelia looking so confident, Daphne felt a flicker of doubt. ‘Why does she look like she’s got this in the bag? Did I rush into this?’ Daphne thought to herself.
But she quickly brushed the thought aside. ‘Nah, she’s just faking it, Daphne reassured herself.
‘She handed in her test after just half an hour. There’s no way she finished all the questions. She probably bombed it, Daphne figured.
Regaining her composure, Daphne lifted her chin and declared, “Alright, whoever chickens out is a loser.”
Ophelia flashed a mocking grin at Daphne, the sarcasm written all over her face.
Daphne glared at her, eyes blazing. “Let’s see how long you can keep that smug look,” she said.
With a careless shrug, Ophelia turned away, ignoring Daphne completely.
“Ophelia…” Ruby bit her lip, hesitating, unsure if she should say anything.
“Don’t worry, it’s all good,” Ophelia said, giving her a reassuring grin.
Ruby felt her anxiety melt away the moment she saw Ophelia’s smile.
“Yeah, I’m not worried. I know you’ll stay in the advanced class. I believe in you,” Ruby said, her trust clear in her voice.
The class went weirdly quiet, everyone holding their breath.
Then, as soon as the scores and the names of who made the cut dropped that afternoon, the advanced class totally blew
“What? This can’t be happening!” Daphne’s shrill voice rang out across the classroom.
“Did they mess up?” Zoe muttered, still dazed, her voice barely above a whisper.
