Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 124

124.Chapter 124

Her expression eased, and even her voice softened a little. “Since you’ve finished what you came for, I’ll see you out, Mr. Caldwell.”

But just hearing her say that gave Alaric another headache.

“Aren’t you going to offer me a cup of coffee?” Alaric had to come up with an excuse to stick around.

Ophelia gave a polite, almost mocking smile. “No need for that. It’d be a bit rude to serve you the coffee you brought yourself.”

Alaric’s lips twitched. ‘Isn’t it way more rude to kick me out?’ he thought.

“Then just plain water, I guess.” Alaric said, making it clear he had no intention of leaving anytime soon.

Ophelia couldn’t help but roll her eyes, biting back her annoyance. “Fine. As long as you’re happy, Mr. Caldwell.”

She reached out, flipped over a cup on the coffee table, and poured him some water.

Alaric picked up the cup, took a sip, and nodded with mock satisfaction. “Huh, surprisingly sweet.”

Ophelia shot him a fierce glare. ‘Sweet? Yeah, right, she thought.

“Finished your water, Mr. Caldwell? Ready to head out?” Ophelia asked, flashing that polite smile that was all for show. ‘She’s so thoughtful, if only she wasn’t basically showing me the door, Alaric couldn’t help but smirk to himself. Alaric just shook his head. ‘This girl really has a knack for leaving me frustrated,’ he thought.

“No rush. I only just got here,” Alaric said, making himself comfortable as he took another slow sip from his cup.

If one ignored the fact that he was drinking water instead of coffee, the whole scene could’ve almost passed for something out of a cozy drama.

But to Ophelia, it looked like he was deliberately trying to get under her skin.

‘Seriously? He came to deliver some coffee bean, so how long is he planning to camp out here?’ Ophelia griped inwardly. Ophelia clenched her jaw, her face darkening. “Fine, Mr. Caldwell, since you’re so eager to stay, stick around. What I’m about to discuss with Grandpa has to do with you anyway, so you should hear this too.”

Last time, she’d suggested they talk to Tristan together about calling off the engagement, but he’d shot her down. She was going to talk to Grandpa first, but since Alaric refused to leave, she decided to just lay it all out right here and now. Alaric’s grip on the cup tightened. ‘Knew it, he thought to himself.

He set the cup down, glanced up at Ophelia with a teasing smile. “So, it’s about me, huh? Don’t tell me you’ve finally seen the light and decided to say yes to marrying me, Ophelia?”

“Don’t get ahead of yourself,” Ophelia shot Alaric a frosty glare. “I’m talking about our engagement, not going through with it, but ending it. Since you’re here, Mr. Caldwell, we might as well settle this now.”

“There’s nothing to settle. I refuse,” Alaric replied, his voice suddenly steelý. He was absolutely firm on this.

Ophelia frowned, clearly annoyed. “Mr. Caldwell, relationships should be about two people actually liking each other.

Honestly, it’s not even like either of us has a crush, so why are you so stubborn about this?”

‘Why should two people who don’t even care about each other be forced to stay together just because of some engagement contract?’ Ophelia thought, exasperated.

Alaric pressed his fingers to his temples, paused to think, then said, “Alright then…”
