130.Chapter 130
‘Seriously, looks like she really misunderstood,’ Ophelia thought, feeling a bit helpless.
“Mom, we just ran into each other at the door,” Ophelia blurted out, realizing she had to clear things up before it got out of hand.
Victoria blinked in surprise, her eyes widening. “You just ran into each other at the door?”
The sudden twist left her at a loss for words.
She’d been so thrilled, thinking they’d just come back from a date, but it turned out they’d just… ran into each other?
Adrian, keeping his cool, smiled and asked, “So you two just happened to meet at the door? Alaric, is there a reason you dropped by so late?”
Unless they’d actually gone out together, bumping into each other at the door at this hour felt a little too convenient.
Honestly, Adrian suspected Ophelia was probably just being shy and didn’t want to spill the truth.
Hearing that, Ophelia instinctively shot Alaric a warning look, her eyes saying, ‘You better behave.’
Alaric smiled softly, his gaze gentle as he looked at Ophelia and said, “I just missed Ophelia, so I came over to see her.”
Alaric’s casual words sent shockwaves through the room.
Ophelia was so caught off guard by his words, she ended up spitting out her water.
“Pfft… cough, cough, cough…”
The living room went dead quiet, but beneath the surface, everyone was way more shaken up than they let on.
‘Wait, did we just hear that? Was that… a confession? Did he really say that out loud?’ everyone thought, stunned.
Adrian and Victoria exchanged a glance, a knowing smile slowly creeping onto their faces.
Zoe’s heart turned to ice. ‘How could this happen? Had all those years of waiting been for nothing?’ she thought, her heart sinking into despair.
“Ophelia, when did you two…?” Victoria started, but Ophelia immediately cut her off, her voice firm. “Mom, there’s nothing going on. Don’t read too much into it. We’re just two separate people, and there’s nothing between us.”
Alaric didn’t look the slightest bit embarrassed at being rejected in front of everyone. He quietly refilled Ophelia’s cup and said, “Ophelia, drink slowly.”
“Alaric, you need to stop,” Ophelia muttered under her breath, her voice low and threatening.
‘Why is he putting on this whole lovesick show?’ Ophelia thought, rolling her eyes.
All she wanted was to break off the engagement and live her own life, with nothing to do with him ever again.
If her parents weren’t watching, she would’ve splashed the whole cup of water right in Alaric’s face.
This guy just said all that with zero shame, then acted like nothing happened.
Seeing her cheeks turn red with anger, Alaric’s smile faded and he answered solemnly, “Alright, as long as you’re not mad, I’ Il do whatever you want, Ophelia.”
Ophelia just closed her eyes. ‘Forget it, let the world burn,’ she thought.,
Zoe watched Ophelia and Alaric shooting each other looks, and their parents seemed to approve wholeheartedly. Her gaze turned sharp with jealousy.
Right now, she was seething with hatred, and she wanted nothing more than to tear Ophelia to shreds right then and there.
She just knew it. Ophelia had been going out so often lately, and it had to be because of Alaric. She was obviously trying to get close to him, and now she was back home, showing off their little romance right in front of everyone!
‘What is Ophelia playing at? Is she trying to let Mom and Dad in on her thing with Alaric, so they’ll just go ahead and lock in their engagement?’ Zoe thought, panic rising in her chest.
The more she thought about it, the more anxious she got, her body starting to shake. ‘No, I can’t accept this… Zoe thought, her mind in chaos.
A glare full of hatred was hard to miss, and Ophelia glanced over.
Zoe clearly hadn’t expected Ophelia to catch h Successfully unlocked! a split second, but when she looked up again,
she was back to playing the innocent sweetheart
A subtle smirk tugged at Ophelia’s lips. ‘Zoe almost nailed the sweet little act, but if she could just hide that hatred in her
