131.Chapter 131
Ophelia frowned as the thought crossed her mind. ‘Why am I even thinking about Alaric?’ she wondered.
She shot Alaric a glare, her tone icy. “Let’s go eat. And once we’re done, you can leave.”
She couldn’t stand this drama king. All he ever did was make her life harder.
Alaric arched a brow, thinking, ‘Why is she suddenly so mad? Did I miss something?’
“Alright, everyone, let’s go eat,” Victoria said cheerfully, her gaze lingering on Alaric, her smile deepening as she looked at him.
The group headed into the dining room.
Of course, Ophelia ended up sitting right next to Alaric. That just made her even more frustrated, and Zoe was fuming inside.
Zoe clenched her fork so hard her knuckles turned white, shooting Ophelia a look full of jealousy and hate.
Zoe gritted her teeth, then gave Chloe a look.
Chloe caught on right away, gave a subtle nod, and slipped out of the room.
Luckily, during dinner, Alaric kept things low-key. He served Ophelia some of her favorite dishes and talked business with Adrian, managing to survive Ophelia’s dagger-like glare without a scratch.
After dinner, Alaric stood up and said his goodbyes. “Uncle, Auntie, I’ll be heading out now.”
“Ophelia, go see Alaric out,” Adrian said with a grin, already looking at Alaric like he was his future son-in-law.
Ophelia really didn’t want to go, shooting Alaric a look that could kill.
But she didn’t notice Chloe walking over with a plate of fruit.
As Chloe passed by Ophelia, her hand slipped and the fruit plate tipped over, spilling fruit all over Ophelia’s clothes and leaving stains everywhere.
“Oh no!” Chloe exclaimed, flustered and apologetic. “Ophelia, I’m so sorry, I wasn’t paying attention and stained your clothes. Maybe you should go change.”
Ophelia frowned, her mood instantly turning icy.
Chloe’s acting was so clumsy, only a fool wouldn’t see she did it on purpose.
Ophelia knew exactly what Chloe was trying to pull, but she just gritted her teeth and decided not to make a fuss.
Honestly, she didn’t want to walk Alaric out anyway, so this gave her the perfect excuse to dodge the whole thing.
Ophelia managed a rare, apologetic smile and, for once, her tone was surprisingly soft. “Mr. Caldwell, looks like I won’t be able to walk you out. Please make yourself at home.”
Alaric caught onto her little scheme instantly, a barely-there smirk flashing in his eyes.
‘Look at her, all smug, bet she thinks she’s finally shaken me off; he mused/
‘She’s had enough drama for one night. Guess I’ll cut her some slack, Alaric thought.
“Alright then, I won’t trouble you, Ophelia,” Alaric replied, saying goodbye to Adrian and Victoria before heading out.
“Mr. Caldwell, let me walk you out,” Zoe called out, rushing after him, unable to hide her eagerness.
This was a rare chance she’d managed to create, and there was no way she was letting it slip through her fingers.
But Alaric didn’t even acknowledge her, just walked off without so much as a glance, tall and completely unfazed.
He didn’t wait for her, but Zoe refused to give up. She chased after him, determined to catch up.
