138.Chapter 138
There were a lot of people in the classroom at the time, and no security cameras. It’d be pretty hard to figure out who did it.
‘Who could’ve done this?’ Ophelia wondered, her gaze unconsciously drifting toward Zoe.
Zoe was practically buzzing with excitement, unable to hide the grin on her face as she watched the campus forum blow up and everyone start tearing into Ophelia.
Suddenly, Zoe locked eyes with Ophelia’s icy stare, and the chill was so intense she nearly choked, letting out a startled hiccup.
Ophelia didn’t say a word, but it felt like she could see right through Zoe, making her feel a sudden pang of guilt.
But then Zoe snapped back, ‘Come on, I used an anonymous account. There’s no way Ophelia can pin this on me. What ar I even worried about?’
She tossed her chin up, her expression full of smug defiance. ‘Now you’re the one scrambling, Ophelia. Staring at me won’t help you at all, she thought.
Ophelia just smirked, then coolly looked away.
‘That fake innocent Zoe has been causing trouble nonstop today. Is she finally losing it because of what happened with Alaric yesterday?’ Ophelia thought, a mocking glint in her eyes.
Ophelia shook her head, a look of disdain on her face. ‘People really shouldn’t let anger get the best of them. Once you lose your cool, your brain just shuts down,’ she thought to herself.
Seeing Ophelia’s total indifference, Zoe’s smile froze awkwardly. It was like her chest was stuffed with cotton, suffocating her for no reason.
‘Why is Ophelia acting like she doesn’t care at all? It’s like I just punched a pillow, so frustrating it makes me want to spit blood, Zoe thought, her frustration boiling over.
Suddenly, a wild thought popped into Zoe’s head. ‘Wait, is Ophelia actually trying to make these rumors come true and force Declan to publicly claim her?’
‘I mean, we’re talking about Declan here!’ Zoe’s heart skipped a beat.
Girls all over Dunhollow University had confessed or secretly crushed on him, but Declan never gave anyone the time of day, he shot them all down, cold as ice.
‘Even if Ophelia tried to win Declan over, what if she didn’t succeed?’ Zoe’s mind spun with possibilities.
‘But if this whole mess ends up making Declan publicly acknowledge Ophelia, then wouldn’t that mean… Zoe’s stomach dropped, panic creeping in.
Zoe was suddenly hit with a wave of regret. ‘Wait, did I just hand Ophelia the prize on a silver platter?’ she thought, her heart plummeting.
Her face was a mess of colors, totally conflicted. For a second, she couldn’t even tell if she was making Ophelia look bad or accidentally giving her a boost.
Zoe deflated instantly, it was like all the fun had been sucked out of her, replaced by a heavy, burning resentment. The thrill of watching Ophelia get roasted was gone, and all she felt now was a deeper, darker hate.
After just one glance, Ophelia knew for sure Zoe was the culprit. Her gaze grew colder, a steely resolve flickering in her eyes. ‘That fake innocent Zoe is so convinced I can’t dig up any evidence, that’s why she’s being so brazen, Ophelia thought, at smirk of disdain tugging at her lips.
Honestly, stuff like this was a total joke to her.
She whipped out her phone, ready to trace the post’s IP address, only for her phone to start ringing first.
When Ophelia saw Connor’s name pop up on her phone, her mouth twisted into a grimace. ‘Uh-oh, this can’t be good, she thought, a sinking feeling settling in her gut.
But since Connor was calling her directly, she had to step out of class to take the call.
Ophelia started, “Connor, you,”
“Hahaha…” she didn’t even get to finish before Connor’s hearty laugh boomed through the phone.
