139.Chapter 139
Connor was over the moon when he found out what was going on in the Dunhollow University forum
He just knew that if he got those two together, sparks would fly.
And sure enough, things were already looking up. He could almost see his future granddaughter-in-law getting settled in.
But then Ophelia’s sharp voice cut through the air. “Mr. Blackwell, instead of putting a stop to this baseless gossip, are you really going to help fan the flames?”
“Huh?” Connor was stunned, his voice tinged with disappointment and a hint of grievance. “It’s not true?”
‘So I got my hopes up for nothing?’ he thought.
Ophelia shot back, exasperated, “What do you think?”
‘As if that could ever be true, she thought.
“Oh.” Connor’s excitement vanished in an instant. He said, though he clearly wasn’t thrilled about it, “Alright, I’ll have someone take care of it.”
A sharp chill flickered in Ophelia’s eyes. Her voice was cold and steady as she said, “I’ll send you the evidence in a bit.” Connor’s eyes widened in surprise and he blurted out, “You already know who did it?”
‘Man, this girl moves fast. She’s already caught the one behind it, he thought.
“I hope you’ll handle this seriously, Mr. Blackwell,” Ophelia said, her gaze icy and her tone leaving no room for argument. Connor immediately agreed, “I’ll have it sorted out before school’s out.”
There was no way he was going to let his future granddaughter-in-law suffer even the slightest injustice.
“Thanks, Mr. Blackwell.” Ophelia felt a wave of satisfaction.
Good thing Connor was so quick to agree after hearing her out.
Connor had his own concerns, of course. If Ophelia and Declan were really making progress, he’d be thrilled. But if someone was deliberately trying to smear Ophelia’s name, he’d definitely have her back.
After hanging up, Ophelia dove straight into the campus forum and quickly tracked down the original poster.
Seeing it was an anonymous account, a mocking smirk played on Ophelia’s lips. ‘So that’s what gives that fake innocent the nerve to mess with me?’ she thought.
‘These childish tricks are nothing in front of a hacker queen like me…!’ she scoffed to herself.
Once she had the evidence, Ophelia sent it straight to Connor. Now all she had to do was wait for him to handle it.
School was almost out.
Mr. Wells suddenly walked into the classroom, his face stern as he fixed his gaze on Ophelia and Zoe. “Ophelia, Zoe, could you come to my office for a moment?”
Ophelia guessed this probably meant Connor had already handled things. She shot Zoe a casual glance.
That icy look made Zoe’s heart skip a beat.
“W-What’s going on, Mr. Wells?” Zoe blurted out, her nerves getting the better of her.
“Come with me, you’ll see,” Mr. Wells said, and walked out ahead of them.
Ophelia followed him out, and Zoe forced herself to tag along, nerves jangling.
On the way, Zoe couldn’t take her eyes off Ophelia’s back, her mind spinning. ‘Why would Mr. Wells call both of us in at the same time?’ she wondered, feeling more anxious by the second.
When they got to the office, Mr. Wells gave a weary sigh as he looked at both of them.
Then he turned to Zoe and asked in a low, stern voice, “Zoe, care to explain what happened on the school forum?”
“Huh?” Zoe looked at him, confused. “What do you mean, Mr. Wells?”
But inside, her heart was pounding. ‘Wait, does he already know I was the one behind the whole forum incident?’ she thought, panic creeping in.
