140.Chapter 140
“Take a look,” he said, handing Zoe a stack of A4 papers. The evidence was crystal clear, it was all her doing.
As soon as Zoe saw what was on the papers, her face went ghostly pale. Her knees buckled and she staggered back a couple of steps.
‘How did things end up like this?’ she thought, panic flooding her mind.
It was like an invisible hand was choking her, every breath a struggle.
‘Things weren’t supposed to turn out like this. I covered my tracks so well, how did they even find me?’ Zoe thought, panic
rising.
But the evidence was right there, there was no way she could deny it.
Her mind was spinning, but the more she thought about it, the more freaked out she got. She just couldn’t figure out how on earth they’d caught her.
Suddenly, she remembered how calm Ophelia had been earlier, and her heart clenched. For some reason, she couldn’t shake the feeling Ophelia had something to do with this.
Zoe snapped her gaze to Ophelia, her eyes complicated and conflicted.
Ophelia just stood there, a cold smirk tugging at her lips, her eyes flat and unfeeling. The look sent a chill down Zoe’s spine, she couldn’t help but shudder and nervously swallow, feeling the pressure from Ophelia’s icy stare.
“M-Mr. Wells,” Zoe finally blurted out after hesitating, her voice small and full of regret. “It was me. I did it.”
“And why did you do it?” Mr. Wells pressed, his expression still frosty now that Zoe had come clean.
Zoe nervously bit her lip, putting on her best innocent-little-flower look as she tried to explain, “We were in class, and I saw Ophelia and Declan together. They just seemed so perfect for each other, I couldn’t help myself, then I snapped a few photos.”
Ophelia was so annoyed by Zoe’s excuse that she almost laughed out loud.
She snapped, “Everyone else was focused on their work, but you were busy speculating about others and deliberately stirring up trouble, turning the campus forum into a dumpster fire. Dunhollow University is honestly ashamed to have someone like you.”
Zoe’s face went paper white, tears welling up, trying to look pitiful. “Ophelia, please don’t be so harsh. I swear I didn’t do it on purpose. You and Declan just looked so close, like you had some secret agreement, so I misunderstood.”
‘Look at her, acting all innocent while sneakily throwing dirt on me,’ Ophelia couldn’t help but sneer inwardly.
Ophelia couldn’t be bothered to waste another word on Zoe. She turned to Mr/Wells and said, “Mr. Wells, since she’s admitted it, I expect the school to handle this by the book.”
“Yes, the school has already made its decision regarding your punishment,” Mr. Wells replied with a nod. Then he fixed his gaze on Zoe. “This is entirely your fault. You are required to apologize to Ophelia right now, face to face.”
Zoe felt sick to her stomach. ‘Why do I have to apologize to Ophelia?’ she fumed inside.
‘Ophelia’s the one always flirting with every guy she sees. I just exposed her, and now I’m supposed to say sorry?’ Zoe thought, her anger simmering.
Seeing Zoe still keeping quiet, Mr. Wells frowned and reminded her, “Zoe, this incident has caused a lot of trouble, and the school is taking it very seriously.
“You need to fix your attitude and show some real regret. If you keep acting like this, the school might just expel you for refusing to own up and change.”
Zoe staggered, the threat of being expelled hitting her like a punch to the gut. ‘Are they seriously going to kick me out?’ she thought, panic clawing at her chest.
‘No way, I can’t let this happen, she thought desperately, her mind spinning.
