161 Chapter 161
161.Chapter 161
‘I really can’t be bothered with her,’ Ophelia thought, brushing Daphne off and moving to sidestep her on her way into the
school.
But Daphne stepped right in front of her again, her brows knitted in irritation. “Are you seriously pretending not to see me?” “I see you,” Ophelia said, her gaze growing colder, voice tinged with ice.
“So you see me and still try to dodge me? You think ignoring the problem will make it go away?” Daphne shot back, chin raised, glaring at Ophelia.
Ophelia blinked her big eyes, looking all clueless. “I thought you signed up to be the school’s guard dog. And not just any dog, a pretty mean one. Gotta steer clear or I might get bitten.”
“Quit making stuff up! You’re the one who bites!” Daphne exploded, her voice shaking with rage. Then, realizing what she’d just said, she gritted her teeth, furious. “Did you just call me a dog?”
“Isn’t that exactly what you are?” Ophelia shot back, raising an eyebrow. “Saw you here after school yesterday, and here you are again this morning. Every time you see me, you snap at me. What else would you call that?”
“Ophelia, I’m gonna tear that mouth of yours apart!” Daphne’s face went dark with fury as she totally lost it and lunged at Ophelia.
‘She’s seriously gonna make me lose it. Is her mouth made of razor blades or what?’ Daphne fumed to herself.
“Daphne!” someone called out in a panic, grabbing her by the arm to hold her back.
“Let go of me!” Daphne shouted, thrashing around in anger.
Worried she’d blow their plan, her friend held on tight and hissed, “Daphne, we’re running out of time. If we don’t do this now, we’ll miss our chance.”
That made Daphne cool down a little.
‘Yeah, class is about to start and we still haven’t handled our business, Daphne reminded herself.
Once Daphne finally calmed down, her friend gave Ophelia a look that lingered with something unspoken.
Ophelia didn’t miss the jealousy and resentment flashing in her eyes. She blinked, a bit lost at first, then just sighed inwardly.
‘No wonder she sticks with Daphne. Birds of a feather, I guess,’ Ophelia thought.
Ophelia knew she’d never even talked to this girl before, but whatever. Sometimes, people just decide to hate you, and it’s got nothing to do with what you did.
Guess there’s no dodging this mess. Ophelia folded her arms, looking totally unbothered as she stared Daphne down. “So, what’s up? Spit it out.”
She looked for all the world like she was the queen granting them an audience, generously sparing a few moments of her oh-so-precious time.
Daphne’s temper, which had just cooled, flared up again. “Don’t act so high and mighty.”
“If we’re talking about being arrogant, no one does it better than you,” Ophelia shot back, her tone dripping with sarcasm as she gave Daphne a cold, mocking look.
Daphne wasn’t stupid, her grades proved that much. She was just so used to acting tough that she’d rather throw punches than use her brain.
“You!” Daphne was left speechless by Ophelia’s comeback, her expression soured instantly.
“Ophelia, we need to discuss something with you,” the girl holding Daphne back finally said, her tone more like a command than a request.
