Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 164

164 Chapter 164

164.Chapter 164

“You really think that way?” Declan’s eyes lit up with genuine admiration as he looked at her. He was honestly impressed by how tough she was.

Ophelia raised an eyebrow at Declan, coolly polite. “Just spit it out, Declan.”

She seemed calm and collected, but Declan could still feel the distance between them. It wasn’t that she didn’t know him, more like she didn’t really acknowledge him, so she kept her distance.

Declan couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed at that realization.

Declan’s eyes grew more serious as he said in a low voice, “Just wanted to ask why you didn’t show up at the training program today?”

“Oh, I already put in a leave request. I’m not going back, ever,” Ophelia replied, her eyes cool and steady, her voice so casual it was like she was just talking about the weather.

Declan frowned, not hiding his concern. “I know you’re really talented, but the actual competition hasn’t even started yet. If skipping the training ends up messing with your performance, it’d be a real waste.”

With her skills, she honestly had a real shot at winning something big.

“It’s fine. I’ll still work hard, even if I’m not in the training program,” Ophelia replied, her voice calm. She didn’t bother mentioning what happened at the school gate that morning, she didn’t think anyone needed to know anyway.

Daphne had cornered her at the gate, probably betting that Ophelia would keep her mouth shut. ‘She knows I’m not the type to go around telling people, Ophelia thought to herself.

Declan paused, a little unsure, and asked, “Are you really set on this?”

“Yeah, Mr. Wells already gave me the green light,” Ophelia nodded, all business.

“Well…” Declan paused for a second, then sighed. “Alright, since you’ve made up your mind, I’ll bring you the prep materials every day.”

Even if she wasn’t in the training program, as long as she kept up with the practice, she’d still be able to keep up.

Declan added, “And if you ever get stuck on anything, just hit me up anytime.”

“No need,” Ophelia replied without thinking.

‘Better keep my distance from Declan, Ophelia thought to herself. ‘Otherwise, Connor would just start overthinking things.”

She didn’t care what anyone else thought, but Connor was a whole different ball game, he’d really take it to heart.

Seeing how quickly she shot him down, Declan felt a weird ache in his chest, like something was stuck there.

“Why? Do you really not care about this competition at all?” Declan just couldn’t figure her out, he’d seen what she could do.

Ophelia paused, searching for a reason. “Uh… I’ve already got review materials, so you really don’t need to worry about me, Declan.”

“If there’s nothing else, I’m heading out,” Ophelia said, looking Declan in the eye, her tone serious. “Declan, you don’t have to follow every single thing Connor arranges for you.”

“Huh?” Declan blinked, confused. ‘What did Grandpa even set up?’ he wondered.

Thinking he was just trying not to go against his elders, Ophelia shrugged. “It’s nothing. Alright, I’ll get going then.”

She was just giving him a heads-up, what Declan did with that advice was his own call.

Watching her turn and walk away with that effortless cool, Declan raised an eyebrow.

‘So, was she basically telling me not to worry about Grandpa trying to set us up?’ Declan wondered.

‘So she really doesn’t have any feelings for me… he thought.

He couldn’t explain it, but that realization left Declan with a strange, uncomfortable feeling in his chest.

Watching Ophelia’s figure disappear into the distance, Declan’s eyes grew complicated. ‘She really is unique, he thought to himself. ‘No wonder Grandpa’s so taken with her.’
