165 Chapter 165
165.Chapter 165
“The association set it up,” Ophelia replied. She couldn’t wriggle out of it, so she had to come, like it or not.
“Oh,” Ella said with a cheeky grin. “That’s our Boss for you…”
Before Ella could finish her sentence, a security guard blocked their way at the entrance.
“The competition’s about to start. No more contestants allowed in. You’re late, so just head home,” the guard said, totally stone-faced, not budging an inch.
“We’re not contestants. We’re here as invited judges,” Ella replied, her chin tilted up in a smug little gesture.
The guard raised an eyebrow at them, clearly unconvinced. “You two? Judges?”
With the guard still doubting, Ella flashed her badge right under his nose. “Take a good look.”
The guard gawked at them, then awkwardly pulled the barricade aside. “Go on in.”
‘Seriously? Judges? They look just as young as the contestants; the guard thought, still in disbelief.
Just as they were about to head inside, a shrill voice suddenly shouted, “How could you let them in?”
The group turned to see Layla shooting them a furious glare.
“What’s it to you?” Ella gave Layla a dirty look. ‘Seriously? Running into her? Just my luck, she thought.
“The entry time for contestants is over. You’re late, so you can’t come in. What kind of tricks did you pull? You know this is breaking the rules, right?” Layla snapped, her eyes practically gleaming as she stared at Ophelia.
‘Ophelia, I’ve finally got you right where I want you. No way I’m letting you off today, Layla thought, a malicious glint in her
eyes.
“What are you doing here?” Ophelia glanced at Layla, not hiding her surprise at running into her.
“Obviously, I’m here to compete,” Layla replied, a smug smirk on her lips. “But you? You’re out of luck. If you dare go in, I’ll report you.”
“Are you for real?” Ella snorted, unable to hold back her sarcasm. “You think you can report her?”
“She’s late, so she’s automatically disqualified. Of course she can’t go in,” Layla said, acting all self-righteous and looking way too pleased with herself.
Ophelia just rolled her eyes, looking genuinely disappointed. “Honestly, if you’ve got time to stir up drama, you’d be better off getting back to your seat and preparing. Stop making a fool of yourself in front of everyone.”
With that, Ophelia simply brushed past Layla and headed straight for the competition hall.
“Hey, don’t think I won’t report you!” Layla shouted, watching as Ophelia ignored her completely and kept walking.” Everyone, look! She’s late…”
Before Layla could finish, Ella shoved a badge right in front of her face, blocking her view.
“Use those eyes of yours and look properly,” Ella sneered, pushing the badge even closer to Layla’s face.
“Judge… Ophelia…” Layla muttered, her eyes wide in disbelief as she read the words. Then her voice shot up, sharp and shrill. “She’s a judge?!”
‘No way. How could Ophelia possibly be a judge?’ Layla thought, her mind spinning.
“Tch, idiot,” Ella scoffed, tucking the badge away with a smug grin. “She’s here to judge you, not the other way around.” Layla just stood there, completely stunned. ‘What the hell is going on?’ she thought, her mind a total blank.
It felt like someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over her head, chilled to the bone, she couldn’t stop shivering. “The competition is about to start. All contestants, please return to your seats and make your final preparations,” the announcer’s voice echoed through the hall, signaling that the countdown had begun.
Layla gritted her teeth and hurried back to her seat.
This competition meant everything to her. If she could place, she’d get into the girls’ academy with her results, major in business management, and finally get a shot to rub shoulders with the business big shots.
