172 Chapter 172

172.Chapter 172

He looked so sincere that for a moment, her mind just blanked out.

She lowered her gaze, her tone turning icier. “My path is one I walk alone.”

After that, Ophelia just focused on her food, not sparing him another glance.

Alaric let out a quiet sigh, the bitterness hidden deep inside, but outwardly he remained perfectly composed.

“In a city this big, and we still run into each other, Ophelia. It’s gotta be fate,” Alaric said, his eyes dark with stubborn resolve. ‘One way or another, I’ll get her to stop resisting me,’ he thought.

Ophelia didn’t bother to respond, just kept eating.

‘Fate? Really? It’s just a coincidence, that’s all, she thought to herself.

Not noticing the change in her expression, Alaric paused for a moment, then said, “I booked the presidential suite at the Imperial Hotel. Why don’t you just stay there with me?”

Clatter.

The piece of ribs Ophelia had just picked up dropped right back onto her plate with a dramatic thud.

Her fork froze in midair as she gawked at Alaric, eyes wide with shock. “Me? Move in with you?”

‘Does he even hear himself right now?’ she thought, completely floored.

‘Why would I ever need to stay with him? No way!’ she fumed inwardly.

“So you want to stay with me?” Alaric pretended to think it over, pausing dramatically before saying, “Well, I guess I could make that work.”

Ophelia snapped out of it and shot him a glare, her voice sharp. “Who said I wanted to stay with you?”

Alaric put on his most innocent face, sounding all wronged. “Weren’t you the one who just said that?”

Ophelia’s lips twitched hard as she gritted her teeth. “Wasn’t it you who said you booked a room and wanted me to stay over?”

‘Seriously? Now he’s flipping the script on me?’ she fumed inwardly.

“What I meant was, you could stay at the Imperial Hotel too. That way, we can keep an eye on each other, and when we’re done here, head back to Dunhollow together,” Alaric said smoothly.

Then he leaned in, eyes glinting with mischief. “But hey, if you actually want to move in with me, I wouldn’t mind at all.”

“Shut up!” Ophelia blurted out, grabbing a rib and stuffing it right into Alaric’s mouth. She’d had enough of his nonsense.

She was so embarrassed her toes curled under the table.

He was the one who said something that could be taken the wrong way, and now he was making it look like it was all her fault. ‘Seriously, how am I supposed to deal with this?’ she thought, wishing she could just disappear.

Alaric was momentarily stunned when Ophelia stuffed the rib into his mouth, but he just grinned, picked up a rib, and placed it in her bowl. He raised his eyebrows at her, giving her a playful look that clearly said, “Go on, you eat too.”

‘Eat? After all that?’ Ophelia thought, her cheeks burning with embarrassment.

‘Can I even eat after this mess?’ she wondered, feeling utterly mortified.

Ophelia took a deep breath, set down her fork, crossed her arms, and fixed Alaric with a cold, unwavering stare. “I’m not staying at the Imperial Hotel, and where I live is none of your concern.

“I don’t need you looking after me, either. From now on, let’s just act like we never met. We’ll go our separate ways, handle our own business, and head back to Dunhollow on our own. That’s it.”

With that, Ophelia stood up, grabbed her backpack, and walked out of the restaurant without looking back.

‘I can’t take this anymore. I’m sweating like crazy, she thought, completely mortified.

She was always the picture of composure, but right now, she’d never felt so flustered in her life.

Once she was out of the restaurant, Ophelia got in her car and sped off without a second glance.

Alaric stepped outside, watching Ophelia’s car speed off into the distance Thinking about how flustered she’d just been, he couldn’t help but grin to himself. ‘She’s hon Successfully unlocked! I worked up,’ he thought, the smile lingering
