Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 178

178 Chapter 178

178.Chapter 178

“Ophelia, if you’re feeling tired, just wait here. I’ll go get your luggage and come right back down, Alaric said, his gaze soft with concern. He knew she’d been pretty worn out these past few days.

As he spoke, Alaric was already getting out of the car.

By the time Ophelia snapped out of it and looked over, he was already through the hotel doors.

Watching his figure disappear inside, Ophelia’s gaze grew a little more reserved. ‘Honestly, when he’s acting all serious, he’s actually not that unbearable, she thought to herself.

Dusk was falling, and the city lights were just starting to flicker on.

When Ophelia got back to the Rowle family home and stepped into the living room, her family was already waiting for her, their faces lighting up with joy.

“Ophelia, you’re finally back!” Victoria said, her eyes warm with a smile. “How was the trip? Everything went smoothly in the city?”

Ophelia walked over to the couch, sat down with a smile, and answered Victoria’s question, “Yeah, everything was fine.”

“Ophelia, I missed you so much while you were gone,” Owen whined, looking all pitiful.

Ophelia reached out and ruffled his hair. “I missed you guys too.”

“Here, I brought you guys some gifts,” Ophelia said, unzipping her backpack and started passing them around.

Adrian took his with a big grin. “Ophelia, you really didn’t have to. Next time, just enjoy yourself. Don’t worry about us at all.”

“It’s just some small stuff,” Ophelia shrugged. “Saw them in Dunhollow and thought of you guys, so I grabbed one for everyone.”

Owen carefully tucked his gift away, looking like he was holding onto something precious. “Thanks, Ophelia. You’re the best!”

“Oh, so just getting you a gift makes her the best, huh?” Victoria teased, her eyes sparkling with amusement.

Owen lifted his chin proudly. “Of course! It means Ophelia was thinking about us!”

“Ophelia, who was that friend you went to see? You were gone for a whole week. You must be super close! Next time, invite her to Dunhollow and let us play host,” Zoe said, clutching her gift and looking at Ophelia with obvious anticipation.

She made it sound totally casual, all sweet and innocent.

But Ophelia could tell, Zoe was definitely probing her for answers.

Ophelia narrowed her eyes, a little confused. ‘What’s Zoe playing at with all these sweet questions?’ she wondered. ‘Is she just acting innocent, or is she fishing for something?’

Honestly, it didn’t seem likely anyone would suspect why she went to Dunhollow. Unless they’d actually met one of her patients. But nobody knew she was Dr. Rowle, and her patients had sworn to keep her secret. So there was no way anyone else could have found out.

‘So what Zoe’s really curious about is this “friend” I mentioned?’ Ophelia realized, a hint of understanding flickering in her

eyes.

Something seemed to dawn on Ophelia, and she shot Zoe a raised eyebrow. “She’s not really able to come to Dunhollow, that’s why I went to see her in the city. Guess you’ll have to miss out. It looks like you won’t get to meet her after all.”

Zoe bit back her frustration, trying to keep her cool. “I’m not upset or anything. I just think it’s fair. Since you went to visit your friend, we should get a chance to host her too. It’s just good manners.”

Zoe had heard that Alaric hadn’t been in Dunhollow these past few days, and she couldn’t help but feel uneasy.

Ophelia suddenly left Dunhollow, and Alaric was missing too. As the days passed with no sign of either of them, her anxiety grew. Eventually, she had Chloe hire a private investigator to find out what they were up to.

When she finally got the results, Zoe was so mad she could’ve coughed up blood.
