179 Chapter 179
179.Chapter 179
Zoe was probing Ophelia, clearly trying to make her admit the real reason she went to Clearwater City. She probably already knew Alaric was there too.
‘Is she misunderstanding why I went to Clearwater City, or is she totally misreading my relationship with Alaric? Ophelia
wondered.
Zoe was freaking out inside. ‘Is Ophelia just rubbing it in?’ she thought.
“Zoe, this is Ophelia’s own business. It’s better if everyone else just stays out of it. She knows perfectly well how to handle her friendships,” Owen finally spoke up, a hint of irritation in his voice as he shot Zoe a look.
‘Why is she so invested in Ophelia’s friends? That’s honestly kind of weird,’ Owen thought.
As soon as Owen finished, Adrian and Victoria both turned to look at Zoe. Her face went a little pale as she quickly explained.
“No, it’s not like that. I just know Ophelia really cares about this friend, so I thought it’d be nice for us to meet her as a family. If it’s not convenient, then forget it.”
Zoe knew exactly who Ophelia was talking about-Alaric. But she had no choice but to play along with Ophelia’s lie. It was like her heart was being shredded to pieces.
“Ophelia just said it’s not convenient right now. Maybe there’ll be a chance later. Since she’s Ophelia’s close friend, we’ll definitely get to meet her sooner or later,” Victoria said gently, trying to comfort Zoe.
“Yeah, as long as they’re close, that’s all that matters. If we’re meant to meet, we will. If not, it’s no big deal,” Zoe said, putting on her usual sweet and considerate act again.
Watching little miss goody two-shoes Zoe get all flustered and frustrated, Ophelia just curled her lips into a mocking smirk.
‘You did this to yourself, so go ahead and enjoy the misery, Ophelia thought to herself.
“Mom, Dad, I’m feeling tired. I’m going to rest in my room for a bit,” Ophelia said, getting up and glancing at Adrian and
Victoria.
“Go ahead and get some rest,” they replied, both looking genuinely concerned.
“Ophelia, I’ll go up with you,” Owen offered, following her upstairs.
As Ophelia walked away, Zoe’s eyes turned red with hate and jealousy.
‘Is she going to take Alaric away from me too?’ Zoe thought, a wave of panic crashing over her.
‘Ophelia, why do you never let me have anything?’ Zoe fumed to herself.
Once they were in the elevator, Owen muttered with a hint of annoyance, “Is it just me, or has Zoe changed?”
“Changed in what way?” Ophelia looked down at Owen, a bit impressed by how perceptive he was for someone so young.
Owen shook his head, still looking puzzled. “I don’t really know how to say it. It’s just this feeling… she’s not like she used to be.”
“I didn’t really know her before, so I can’t really say,” Ophelia said, choosing to drop the subject. She didn’t want to drag Owen into Zoe’s mess.
‘It’s all just pointless, ridiculous little games anyway. Owen’s way too young to be exposed to the darker side of human nature, Ophelia thought.
The next morning, the sun was out in full force.
